These next two Brewer starters are pitchers that the Reds should be able to get to. Both hittable. Get to them before seeing the Brewers' bullpen aces.

If they can't get to at least one of those guys, they aren't going to do much more this season anyways.

Fair point. Houser was a stud last year. Major step back in the K department this year. It would be great to hit Anderson today and get the W to take the pressure off tomorrow. I certainly hope we do not have to push Bauer when pitching on short rest tomorrow.

    Re: 2020 Playoff Push

I consider myself very on top of things when it comes to knowing the minutia in the sports world. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been arrogantly correctly my friends whenever the post season bracket comes up— I tell them to ignore the current bracket because the top 3 seeds get to choose their opponent. Well, last night it finally clicks that on MLB Network, FOX, etc the brackets are shown and there is no asterisk or mention of the selection show. So now I’m thinking hmmmm... I guess I totally missed the memo where that part of the proposal was not adopted? I thought it was a done deal back in July and reported as such. I’ve confidentially been spewing it and expecting it all year. Haven’t been worried one iota about the Dodgers knowing there is no chance they’d select the Reds if we are white hot and can throw the three top pitchers at them. But it appears I’ve been orbiting my own planet for the past two months. Now I just need to convince my friends that I was right all along and MLB JUST NOW had a closed door meeting to change back to the traditional bracket.

    https://theathletic.com/2082581/2020...-worst-to-best

With one week to go in the season, there are roughly six teams the Dodgers could match up with in the first round.

Without further ado, here are the six teams the Dodgers are most likely to face — ranked in order of worst matchup to best.

    The worst matchup
Cincinnati Reds (27-27, currently eighth in NL)

If the season ended today, the Dodgers would play the Reds in the first round. This is an especially troubling development, as Cincinnati’s Trevor Bauer ranks second in the NL in ERA (1.80). His xFIP (3.32) suggests some of that has been luck, but the Dodgers do not want to face him in a short series. They also do not want to face Luis Castillo. The Reds would only need to beat the Dodgers twice. Bauer and Castillo are both in the top seven in MLB in pitcher WAR.

The Dodgers would not have much problem beating the Reds in a seven-game series. Cincinnati is 27-27 and hitting .212 as a team (worst in MLB). The Dodgers have scored almost 100 more runs than the Reds (312-214). None of that would matter in a short series. Facing Bauer and Castillo would be a nightmare. The Dodgers need the Reds to miss the playoffs.

    5 games remaining - 09/21/2020
    NL Central 1st - -4.5 Games
NL Central 2nd - +/- 0.0 Games (do not own tiebreaker with Cardinals)
    NL Wild Card #1 - +/- 0.0 Games
    NL Wild Card #2 - + 0.5 Games

in great position "if" we continue to win games....

I don't think the Dodgers are getting what they want...

They're better off rooting for us to stay where we are or higher.

Phils down to Nats in first game 4-0 bottom third inning.

Make it 5-0. Make it 5-1.

The Phillies look right now like "The Cincinnati Kid" vs "Minnesota Fats",...choke, choke, choke, choke, choke.

Yes. But also Phils are 8-14 on the road. Teams at around the .500 level are sometimes good at home, weak on road. So, Phils playing in DC.

Except the Reds will triumph in Minnesota.
