The latest the Reds have ever clinched a postseason berth in a season? 9/28/1979 on the 3rd to last day of the season. They beat the Braves 3-0 and clinched after the Astros blew a 4-run 8th inning lead on a Steve Garvey grand slam.

Then, we're going to set a new record, or at the very least tie it with the 3rd to last day of the season, right?

    Knock on wood.

I sold the first portable phone in California.

Man, I miss the simpler times of the '70's.

    Never thought I'd say that.

This is the CT-200. I sold the CT-100 (same thing) in July of 1985 for $2499, plus a $600 service plan, all on a new Radio Shack account.

Three months later (the bill was due in 45 days), I had to refund the money as the phone still hadn't been released yet as they were getting out the kinks. It was supposed to be ready in August. It finally was released in early '86.

My Mom had one of those phones in her Toyota Corolla station wagon.

I became "a man" the night of Game Six of the NLCS in the back of that wagon, to the dulcet tones of Marty and Joe, contrasted by that damned phone ringing the whole time.

I got home just in time to see Braggs' catch.

My dad went through a time at work where he had multiple pagers and a bag phone. He was probably one of the most mobile-connected people in eastern Kentucky at that time, now that I think about it.

You have to find a way to tell Marty that story, if you haven't already.

I drank a Gin and Tonic with Marty and Lee May at the Columbus Caravan in ought five. I wish I had thought to tell him that. Lee May was talking the whole time, so I didn't really get a chance.`

Going to need everything that can go right to go right in the next 3 hours if we want to see them secure a playoff birth tonight. Philly leads, Mil won game one.

Not worried about the Brewers. The Cards will drop the hammer on them. Not really worried about Philly either. Definitely worried about SF. They always have “it.”

Thanks, but I've been posting most of the season.
