I always remember his 1974 league leading 118 SBs at age 35. Tremendous achievement for a very consistent professional.

    Re: RIP Lou Brock

I was a fan of his in the 70's. I wrote him a letter praising the way he played. He sent back a machine-generated black-and-white photo, over which he had signed with a blue sharpie "right-on! Lou Brock." Amazingly enough to me, he came to Missoula, Montana in 1985 on a PR tour. Sadly, hardly anybody showed up at the event. But I was there with that signed autograph. He had a good laugh with me when I told him the story...and signed an article about being elected to the HOF!

Bob Gibson was quoted when the trade was made,, that it was a useless trade, why would we trade Broglio!

On a different not. I would love to see guys like Amir Garrett and Trevor Bauer and there antics they do on the mound and all the hitters with the bat flips antics they do now. Have to step into the batters box against Gibson or Drysdale.
I know the game is supposed to be fun is what most will say but I would rather see a competitive winner on the field than a antics loser. Nothing like losing 9-0 and be laughing and chatting it up with the opposing players.

Made the Game Exciting. Getting ready to race from cloud to cloud instead of base to base and will be Remembered and Loved by Many. RIP LOU

Would Lou Brock even start in the bigs today?
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

    I don't know; how's his spin rate?

He was an above average bat every year from 1964 through 1976 and that had nothing to do with his steals. Of course he'd start.

I never really looked into his stats until he passed, just an honest question because he didn’t have much pop and was not good defensively.

During those prime seasons from 1964 to 1976 he had an OPS+ of 116 with a batting average of exactly .300 and an ISO of .122 He averaged 50 extra base hits per year with an average of 31 doubles, 9 triples and 10 HR. That was an era when only a few players hit more than 30 HR per season. Without the steals that doesn't get him in the Hall of Fame, but it makes him fairly comparable to Ken Griffey Sr. who had similar numbers from 1975 to 1986 with a .301 Average, a .135 ISO and a 120 OPS+. During their primes, Griffey averaged 15 steals per season compared to Brock's 63.

He fit the times perfectly. He would start today but would be looked at much differently and never given the opportunity to run like he did.

Lou Brock was like watching the game jam its finger in an electric socket.
