    RIP Lou Brock

Cardinals legend Lou Brock passed away today at age 81. According to Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Hall-of-Famer had been dealing with “a number of medical conditions in recent years.”

I lived in the St. Louis area in the early/mid '70s and was a big Lou Brock fan. I had a pair of 'Lou Brock' converse low-tops. His name was on the side of the shoe and the bottoms of the soles were red. Those were super cool.

    Re: RIP Lou Brock

He was a favorite of mine growing up. A lot of the time my parents worked at night and I would listen to the Cards on this semi-local FM station in the living room. On my parents buge AM/FM record player console I was really into Brock and his chase of the stolen base record. Every time he came up they would play the theme from Shaft. And every time he got on base I would be at one end of the living room with a cheek full of raisins (to simulate tobacco) and when he took off, I'd do the same and slide into 2nd too. RIP, Lou.

I mentioned this not long ago, but I owned a pair of these.

Brock seems like a nearly forgotten great player of the 60's and 70's. A very good hitter with great speed. He broke at least a couple of Ty Cobb's stolen base records. RIP Lou Brock.
