Dontrelle Willis was always a favorite of mine.

The great middle reliever, Sean Marshall, who was so great, we traded a 2nd year left-handed starting pitcher and 2 top rated minor league prospects for, finished his career with the Reds.

When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

Re: great players who the reds got at the end of their career

Jim Kern, Bob Bailey, Juan Samuel, Benito Santiago, Cesar Cedeno were all past their prime when the Reds got them.

Some people might quibble with are Dave Parker, Ken Griffey Jr and Tom Seaver all significantly less than they had been elsewhere.

I'll duck after posting, but how about Eric Milton, Paul Wilson, Ramon Ortiz, Rick Mahler...

Great defensive center fielder of the Orioles Paul Blair was on the Reds 1979 Division Champion team.

Trick question, they were never great!
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

As a Kid I used to say Joe Hoernor go sit in the corner. That guy was beyond bad. Desperate for pitching in 1977. Keefe Cato on the other hand was outstanding in the 80s. He was almost as good as Candy Sierra or Joe Edelen.

None of the players in the first post were ever great either.. They were notable players who had significant roles on their teams. The closest were Frank Viola and maybe Jerry Reuss.

The Reds received Amos Rusie when they traded Mathewson to the Giants. Rusie was once a great pitcher, and is in the Hall of Fame, but by the time the Reds got him he was done. He never won a game for the Reds.
A decade before the Reds acquired Rusie, they got Old Hoss Radbourne for his final season in 1891. He no longer was a 60 game winner.

The Reds traded Ribant for Bo Belinsky in 1970. He wasn't great but he was famous for a no-hitter and dating movie stars like M
    amie Van Doren.
