In a normal season, we'd have had an additional 4 months to turn it around. The Reds aren't going to hit at that level forever.

I don't know if it was meant to be or wise to do so, but I've felt that the Reds were a team that "if you just get into the postseason...you could win it all."
Their top 3 starters match up against anyone. The bullpen leaves a lot to be desired but lately, I'll take the results.

I still don't really get the complaints about "roster construction". There are certainly elements that could have been better, but I don't think that Suarez having a very weird year, Castellanos' batting average collapsing, Moustakas battling injuries, and Senzel seemingly having the worst case of COVID in baseball has anything to do with roster construction.

We have a better mix now that Senzel and Moose are both healthy, and have Goodwin/Aquino replacing dreck.
We still seem overly dependent on the long ball, but the offense is shaping up.
Visually the defense has looked like less of a problem lately with 2 fast outfielders out there and Garcia playing sometimes.
Bullpen been elite for a month plus now. It feels at least average going forward.
I dunno, the team at this point feels like what we expected going into the year. 85 wins with upside if chips fell. It’s not elite, room to improve. But the record isn’t a fluke and there’s no reason not to enjoy the ride at this point.

So far as roster construction goes I certainly never wanted Jankowski on the roster. So yes, the roster drove me nuts at times.
But I wonder if the 30 man roster made them over think things.
Jankowski is our speed guy.
Davidson is our lefty masher.
JVM is our jack of all trades.
Let’s platoon Ervin and Winker.
Rather than let’s pick the best 25 and add on from there.

Pretty crazy, Suarez has a BABIP a full 100 points below his career norm, and his is still somehow slightly above average with the bat overall.
He's not striking out any more, or hitting the ball any softer than last year.

They didn’t overthink things. On a thirty man roster it’s good to have speed guys and lefty mashers, etc. They still platoon, watch tonight’s lineup against the lefty.
The talent is better now. Reds sorted through players during July and August and the roster now is much more consistent. And they are a bit healthier with Moustakas hitting like the Moose we expected.
The criticism remains that they weren’t ready - again - for “April.” It was harder this year because of the unusual season. But today, just read through the active roster, they look like a good team - on paper and in the field.
yes, geno is a stud. and we have him at a very team-friendly contract.
How much more are they shifting on him?
