But then the pop-up they dropped earlier should have been an out because it hit the inside of the mitt? I know it's a different type of play, but I feel like there should be some consistency.

I’d guess it’s too difficult to determine the exact moment the fielder has “possession”.

They need a “bright line” test, something that can readily be determined.

So apparently - for timing - they use the moment of the ball’s contact with the mitt. But obviously the fielder must hold onto the catch for the out to be recorded.

ok, but he is barely league average over his career. I honestly would have no issue if they tried it...only that my expectations would not be high for a guy with a career .320 OBP in the leadoff position. Tucker has a higher career OBP than Goodwin.

    Just in the thread......

I always thought it was when the ball hit the back of the mitt but apparently not.

When i watch these guys hit i wonder if their wonderful hitting coach even talks to them about so many meatballs they take instead of bashing them?? Not to mention none of them protect the plate and swing at pitches on the corners with two strikes. Just take it for a K

Winker’s been in a mini slump since his suspension. Hope he breaks out of it here.
