He doesn’t compare to Osteen, Robinson, Flood, and O’Neill. But considering he was making the major league minimum and they gave him up for nothing, Cody Ross was a regrettable loss. https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...rossco01.shtml

Not saying Reds gave up on him too soon.

But interesting that Adam Duvall has 10 homers for Braves in September.

Tied for NL lead with Betts and Tatis, Jr. at 15.

He'd priced himself right out of Cincinnati at that point.

Billy Hamilton. Superb CF defense. He created outs with his speed out there. His base running was special. We could of been fine with him batting 8th for the other things he brought to the table, mainly elite defense and speed.

The only way he would have worked out long-term was if the other 7 position players were completely raking and mashing. Even then, maybe not worth it.
Rounding third and heading for home...

Yep, that's why the other 29 teams are climbing all over each to try and acquire him as a starting center fielder.

Good lord, until they add a 2nd DH to the rules, Hamilton is nothing but a pinch runner and late defensive replacement for teams with 4 runs or more lead.

Adam Dunn, he went on to hit a ton of more HRs after his Reds days were over.

We definitely need to move on from B Hamilton. Marty Brennaman was wrong as he did not revolutionize the game. He was placed in the 9th order to bat and the pitcher 8th. He just cannot hit the baseball.

Re: 10 guys the reds gave up on too soon

Getting Mike Cameron for Paul Konerko was a brilliant trade. Cameron led a 96-win with a 5.5 WAR in 1999. He was dynamite. Move an average 1B (they all hit) for a plus CF every day of the week. Subsequently trading Cameron for Ken Griffey Jr. turned out to be the grievous mistake.

And I don't get the hand wringing over Encarnacion. He couldn't play anywhere but 1B or DH. The Reds had a better 1B. He also got cut a year after the trade. It's great for him that he got his game together (as a DH), but the Reds got a major upgrade at 3B. EdE had given the team a 3.2 WAR for his entire stay with the club (-0.7 in 2009). Rolen gave them a 4.1 WAR in 2010. So the Reds moved a guy who was never going to fit on the team and who washed out before he came good for a player who spearheaded the team's only successful spell in the 21st century. I'm better than good with that.

Hal McRae is another player I can't shed tears over. The Reds chose George Foster over him. That was the right choice. Shifting to DH is what gave McRae a new lease on life. They should have gotten more in trade for McRae (because they got nothing), but when they moved him he was a 27-year-old utility player.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
