    Re: Epic songs

I heard Jungleland on the way in to work and would agree that it is the Springsteen song which I would most describe as Epic. There are other songs which are longer or more intense but the storytelling which changes the nature of Jungleland. Clarence's solo and following conclusion to the story are what drive it over to the top.

A possible other candidate is the 77 version of Backstreets from the Boston Music Hall stand:

Pivoting to non-Springsteen, I would throw "The Storm" by Big Country into the mix. If a song gets you to picture yourself standing on a wind and rain swept mountain top in Scotland, it is well on its way to Epic status.

I prefer the music of the Ainur, although I'm not sure Melkor's contributions were as damaging as many think.

A symphony can contain a song, many songs, or none. It depends on the composer. In this case, the 9th contains one of the most famous songs in the world, the “ode to joy” that is the European union’s theme.

I'll throw some newer offerings on the fire.

All I Want by LCD Soundsystem

I'll argue most everything by A Giant Dog qualifies as epic (just in compressed format), but Intro into Creep (and they never should be played apart) is spectacular. Can't find a vid clip of it, but you can hit it up on their Bandcamp page - https://agiantdog.bandcamp.com/album/pile.

And if you want to make French Canadians break out in song, you play this:

It might work elsewhere in Canada too, but if you're ever watching a Montreal Canadiens game and wondering why they're all singing about Saskatchewan, this is why.

There were a few things that came to mind when I thought "epic song"

The Decline - NOFX - 18 minutes of fantastic
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - Reba McEntire
The Big Sleep - Streetlight Manifesto
Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine
    Humble - Kendrick Lamar
    America - Logic

Literally anything sung by Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine)

Too many to list, too many to be told that they aren't epic (and then have the writer tell me what is)

Nonetheless here is one - Telegraph Road by Dire Straits

While Dylan has several candidates, I'll go with Desolation Row.

For the record (no pun) I left the definition of "epic" vague, because it probably means different things to different people.

    I was expecting this lol.

Nothing at all wrong here - but when I think of it, that's the version I get in my head. Had I been born in a different time, with different parents, that version would probably be there. But I had probably heard the Reba version 500 times before I even knew what a Vicki Lawrence was.
