Besides needing wins, sweeping the Pirates will help the Reds playoff chances as the first tie-breaker between non-division opponents is intra-division record. (For division opponents it's head-to-head)

Reds are 17-18 in NLC. Need to win as many of the last 5 as they can.

that would suck to miss the postseason because of a tiebreaker metric

Reds need to keep pounding Pirates but I'd not give them any incentive to play harder.

He uses the pine tar on his bat to get a better grip. Once he holds the bat, he gets it on his hands. Then he touches his helmet. He's not putting it on his helmet for any reason.

Seems to me that Craig Biggio in Houston was one of the first players to do it, followed by several members of the Red Sox in the 00's. The idea is that if the batter needs some extra grip, then all he needs to do is touch the top of his head to get some pine tar, instead of calling time and going back to the on-deck circle.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

Ugh. Bad luck. Tell the groundskeeper to get the rakes out.

How about Joey stays on the bag and Lorenzen fields the ball, forcing Bell to run on the correct side of the baseline, and Lorenzen throws him out at first.

Lorenzen fools around and walks guys and this is his bane. Then everything else he throws is straight and it gets hammered. Nice K there with Polanco. Get this guy and lets move to the bottom of 4.

Going by average, Polanco is a sucker for literally every pitch.

I wouldn’t have Lorenzen on a long leash here.
