    Offseason plans

Let’s discuss things the Reds need to do for 2021

Priority 1:Resign Bauer. Slot Antone into Disco’s rotation slot

Priority 2: Get a Hammer for the back of the pen. Pick up an above average lefty for the pen.

Priority 3: Barnhart leaves or becomes strictly a backup. Ty Steve is the future and is ready. Play him.

Priority 4: Find a real lead off hitter. They need guys that aren’t 3 outcome hackers.

    Tough choices.

Senzel. He’s your number two overall pick. He’s a starter or he’s not. If he’s not, he’s trade bait.

Suarez: Yes I know he has been injured. But he’s a 3 outcome player. He is productive and has a very good contract. He could bring back a haul. Moose can play 3rd. Senzel or a new player could play 2nd. I’d look at moving him.

It’s too soon to know the changes because must see how Bauer and Castellanos decide.

But the team needs a bottoms up review of the offense and to consider changes, major and minor, including as to coaching and analytics people.

The approach and personnel resulted in an unacceptable inability to get hits and runs.

They must particularly consider the transition from GABP to other stadiums on offense. Reds’ GABP style did not translate to the road.

They also need a real middle of the order hitter.

As far as the coaching staff goes. The hitting coach should be fired no debate about it. There is no reason to allow what happened to continue. His approach obviously doesn't work.

    Re: Offseason plans

Yeah Bauer is gone. Still gotta make an effort though. And when he leaves you have to look at replacing him with an impact arm to go with Castillo and Gray.

Obviously some lineup changes are warranted. Really though start with either firing the current staff or hiring a "hitting CEO" or something, just anybody with some idea on how to get these guys (Suarez, Senzel, Castellanos, Moustakas, Shogo) who should be solid or better hitters to no longer be so pitiful up there.

Disco and Galvis need to walk. Barnhart should be dumped. It's time to finally trade Raisel, at least he finished the regular season with nice looking counting numbers. Clear out the last of the holdovers from the bad old days.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Get rid of all the bad players, replace them with good players.

Zinter should be fired tomorrow morning ASAP. Go find a hitting coach that never gets past the interview phase if his teams he was the hitting coach are at the bottom of the standings. Dont cre how nice the guy is or a friend of Bell. !!!

Go get hitters that hit in the clutch. Im done with watching Barnhart, since Bell has no confidence in Stephenson, go after Realmuto.
Need a hitting SS. If they can sign Siemen as a free agent or trade for Lindor or Story.

If they can resign Bauer, do it.
This posteseason feels like the Reds never showed up with thier bats, looked like they never ever were in a post season and unprepared. Dusty Baker i feel woukd have won with this starting rotation. No doubt about it

A front office that has a good plan and knows how to execute it and acquire good players could be a nice addition. Last year’s idea of throwing money around until someone takes it should not be repeated.

They spent tfns of millions of dollars sneaky made the offense worse. They don’t even have any great prospects close to ready either.

    Change should start there.

I agree. Spending needs to be more targeted this year. Last year it seems mostly just bring in anyone you can.

That nonsense we so carelessly refer to as "offense" didn't translate anywhere.

They just played a PLAYOFF series and did not score. Not one time.

    "Buuuhhh...it was only 2 games...."

They could play for weeks and not score. I think every record for offensive futility was broken by our beloved bozos this season.

You don't "build" off something like that. You destroy it and try again.

At home Reds put up good power numbers and had a respectable OPS. On the road a very different story. There is a large gap and it’s a serious issue. Of course, from a BA perspective they were bad everywhere.

Honestly we have too many holes to fill and too many bad contracts to fix this thing. What we do have is 6-7 guys who we could trade and get some young talent. The team is going to have to eat some money to get rid of some guys but we’re not winning anything until Vottos contract runs out. It’s just too much money for a small market team to be competitive.

I don't think this is true. They did spent some money this offseason, the question is: do they spent the money wisely?

The reds have a problem to find good, talented players (especially on offense) and to get the best out of them on the field (offense aswell). Votto's contract is obviously not helping, but it is an easy (and imo wrong) excuse for not doing a good job in the front office, scouting and coaching...
