2020-2021 Off-Season News, Notes and Discussion

I guess it's that time of year for a thread where we can post and discuss any and all Reds off-season news. You never know it could be interesting.

    @nightengalejr

Dick Williams says he expects all the #Reds coaching staff coming back. "They deserve every chance to come back." Williams said "this is a year they should be proud of."
Loser mentality unless hes playing possum. A slap in the face to fans to run Zinter back with his past results and the results of this season.

Was that Dick Williams or Mike Brown saying that?

    From Nightengale Twitter

Dick Williams says there are still a lot of unknowns with next year's payroll, so can't say if it'll be higher or lower than this year. Williams added Bob Castellini is committed to giving them as many resources as possible. #Reds

Bell said hitters likely will show better in a traditional 162-game season.

“Where we came up short was stringing together hits at times during the season,” he said. “You can look at the defensive positioning, you can look at hard hit balls that didn’t go for hits, but it’s something we’ve got to take a close look at.”

I translate this to mean, we'll pay up to keep Bauer if he'll stay, but if he walks, we aren't spending that money elsewhere. Purely my own assumption.

I am happy to see Williams saying Reds will take a “close look” at the hitting issues.

Given the talent level, the Reds hitting stats are difficult to believe.

.212 BA. .204 road BA. .245 BABIP. More walks than singles. 57 homers at home, 33 on road (despite two additional road games).

Along with a number of individual performances bearing no relation to player history, Votto hitting .226; Suarez .202; Castellanos .225. Winker with 25% K rate.

    Some study is in order.

Gotta admit that an up the middle of TySteve, Garcia, India, and Senzel is rather interesting to me. Not sure if it will come together in 21, 22, or ever, it's something to dream on.

I also think Andrelton Simmons makes the most sense to sign in case Garcia isn't ready.

Re: 2020-2021 Off-Season News, Notes and Discussion

So over on the Athletic today, Keith Law, who says he doesn't have a ballot this year, posted what would be his ballot for player awards. I guess it is a good thing for Bauer he isn't voting this year

5th - behind Burns and Fried who didn't even have enough innings pitched as starters to qualify, Fried who also was 1 full fWAR behind Bauer (1.5 versus 2.5), deGrom (who said after his last start that he had lost the Cy and Bauer maybe Darvish should win it) whose ERA was more than half run worse than Bauer's (2.38 vrs 1.73), etc. etc. etc.

There are a lot of writers out there that hate Bauer, and if they have ballots and vote like Law (an avid Bauer hater), it sure isn't going to help Bauer's candidacy. You can legitimately put Darvish at the top if you are willing to ignore that he got one more start this year than Bauer, and maybe run deGrom up there to third, but to push Bauer to 5th behind anybody other than Darvish is just a joke. Yet many ballots will come back just like this one.

I absolutely hate the term “SJW” and think it’s overused by a lot of a-holes in our society.

With that said: Law is peak middle aged upper middle class white dude over-compensating SJW.

Guaransheed he put Bauer at 5 because he disagrees with Bauer socially. GUARANSHEED.
What would you say.....ya do here?

In Law's case, Bauer is probably even lucky he made it on to what would have been his ballot period. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see his name missing completely on the "less than tall" idiot's list

The last 102 won’t matter much after the first
    60 hitting.

    Wishful thinking.
