Honestly, their rotation looks like a problem with what they *already* have, Gray+Castillo and then ?????? already needs a big addition if Bauer isn’t coming back. They need that shortstop solution in addition to everything they already have. Trading Gray to get it is just treading water at best.

I agree, it won’t make sense for 2021. But it makes sense long term, if you make the right moves. However, I am not sure Reds fans are ready for a retool. It will be a hard sell.

The Cubs Reportedly Talked Kris Bryant Trade with the Red Sox Over the Summer

In evaluating possible moves the Cubs could look to make this offseason, the Tribune’s Mark Gonzales included a very interesting couple lines about Kris Bryant.

It just seems pretty pointed, especially given what we expect the Cubs are trying to do (trade Bryant before the December 2 non-tender deadline), to include this as the initial focus of his section on Bryant:

Two sources confirmed the Red Sox and Cubs discussed Bryant this summer, but those talks faded.

Rafael Devers is the incumbent at third base, which means the Red Sox would envision Bryant as a left fielder.

The Red Sox’s farm system isn’t deep, but they have a lot of money after clearing the salaries of David Price and Mookie Betts by trading them to the Dodgers in February.

REPORT: Randy Arozarena Arrested After Allegedly Attempting to Abduct His Daughter

Tampa Bay Rays postseason star Randy Arozarena was reportedly arrested in Mexico after an altercation with his ex-wife and ex-father-in-law, and an attempt to take his daughter from them.

Arozarena, who defected from Cuba to Mexico before coming to the United States to play baseball, allegedly physically attacked his ex-father-in-law in the process of attempting to forcibly take his daughter, and there may have been additional violence.

Trading Gray is either incredibly brilliant or incredibly stupid. It’s all in the execution.

How about we don't execute Sonny Gray?

Agreed. Executing valuable players seems sub-optimal.

Retooling is a fools game. If you're going to rebuild, then f'n rebuild. Problem is I'm not sure this is the offseason for it. I'm not sure owners are going to take on players making money and give up cheap prospects due to the loses last year and the potential for more in 2021.

But, let's say this offseason does run like a normal one. If that is the case, and you deal Gray, then you might as well deal Castillo, Iglesias and Winker too. My guess is Suarez' value is down, but if he starts hot then you deal him too. For Gray and Castillo you need each package headlined by a top 10 in MLB prospect and another top 50 type. If Suarez plays like his old MVP self you ask for another top 10 prospect for him.

You potentially net 3 top 10 MLB prospects and multiple more in the top 50 off all the deals. And you mix that with a high draft pick and hopefully landing a big international prospect with your saved money (in the vain of Luis Robert), and there is the foundation of your next team and rebuild.

I'm not saying I agree with that direction after watching years of losing. But, if you're going to do it, don't half ass it. You gotta do it all the way.

I agree that a rebuild should not be done half-way. But one major trade - while changing the team - does not necessarily require a rebuild.

Let’s say Reds could trade Gray for a young starter and shortstop, both MLB-ready with upside. I don’t see why that requires a rebuild of the whole ballclub.

I don't think the Gray talk signals a rebuild. There are too many pieces that can't be moved. It is more on the order of a Tampa Bay move. Perhaps the new pitching regime believes that there is pitching talent that we don't see. After all, most of us pretty much missed Antone. Perhaps they are simply dangling a commodity in high demand in the hope of acquiring a potential all star talent of the future.

Retooling isn’t doing half a rebuild. It’s something different. It’s moving key players at their highest value in order to keep the roster continually filled with talent.

Hear me out: I want players who are at their highest value to play for my team because I want my team to win a stupid piece of metal so I don't feel like my life's work has been so useless. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
