It gets better for Mets. They not only save the 24 million for Cano, they get to keep the 4 million the Mariners send them for Cano because that money goes to Mets, not Cano.

I'm assuming the new management didn't turn Cano in.

Sources: #Nats are considering a trade for #Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, among numerous hitters they’re currently monitoring on the market. Free agent DJ LeMahieu is another option, as I reported earlier today on @MLBNetwork. @MLB

Yonder Alonso announced his retirement on Instagram. He spent time with the Braves and Padres this year, but did not play in the majors in 2020.

He appeared in parts of 10 big league seasons, and hit an even 100 career home runs.

Rays open to trading ace Snell (sources)

A reigning Cy Young Award winner is currently available on the free-agent market, but could another former winner be on the move via trade this winter?

According to multiple sources, the Rays have told other clubs that they’re open to the idea of trading Blake Snell, presenting a realistic possibility that a deal could be consummated this offseason.

A source noted that Tampa Bay is not actively shopping Snell, who has three years and $39 million remaining on his five-year, $50 million extension, but given the financial losses the Rays endured during the pandemic-impacted 2020 season, trading the 27-year-old represents the club’s best chance to create some much-needed flexibility.

Snell will earn $10.5 million in 2021, $12.5 million in 2022, and $16 million in 2023.

I went through the Baseball Trade Values site just to see what a deal would look like, and I came up with this:

    TBR gets:
    OF Senzel
    OF Siani

    CIN gets:
    OF Kiermeier
    LH Snell

According to the article, the Angels, Braves, and Mariners have the inside track for Snell. I suspect he winds up going to the Mariners.

If I was the Rays and the Reds offered that I would laugh and say "Oh, were you serious?"

Per Rosenthal, Reds are open to trading Gray.

If the Reds are going to trade Gray, they may as well look into what they can get for Castillo. I'd throw Suarez in the mix too, but given his down year, not a fan at selling low.

Regardless of what the Reds decide to do, they CAN'T screw up another rebuild. If you're going to rebuild, go all-in and do it properly. No halfway approach or waiting until players' values have declined to the point of getting garbage in return.

    From the article:

Rival clubs report the Reds are open to moving Gray, whose recent performance and affordable contract make him more appealing than most of their players. As teams do with all trade possibilities, the Reds are gauging what they might get in return, and weighing how they might reallocate their savings.

I really don’t get this unless you start a real rebuild.
