I think we've heard from every team, and even if we haven't this remains true: every team currently has a lower 2021 payroll than their 2020 pre-pandemic (i.e. full season) payroll. Lot of offseason left, but cripes.

A struggling team could take 20 million in this market and really fill out its roster and turn itself around.

Old School and I made this point as soon as this non-tender news leaked. I really hope the Reds take advantage of it. It's a rare time when a mid market team can add talent without busting their payroll.

I think they are completely "broke." But I hope you are right. For example, Bradley seems like a guy they could have really used for 2020. But maybe they think they can find guys like him for cheaper on this market. Or put that money towards a bigger player.

But I think it's more likely that they just need to slash payroll.

The fact that there is no MLB-MLBPA agreement on the universal DH for 2021 completely undercuts the large group of corner OF/DH/corner slugger types among the free agents. An already bad situation for those players made worse.

The '16 Cubs brought lifetimes of joy to the fan base, and there will be many great reunions. But two questions will linger from this era:
    1. Why did the organization struggle so much to develop pitching?
    2. Why didn't the core group of young position players continue to improve?

Archie Bradley, RHP: One of the more consistent relievers in the NL over the past four seasons, Bradley was non-tendered by the Reds just three months after Cincinnati traded for him. Some believed the Reds might trade Raisel Iglesias and his $9.125 million salary this offseason, handing the closer’s job to Bradley; instead, Bradley (who had a $4.1 million salary in 2020) was sent packing rather than coming back in his third year of arbitration-eligibility. Bradley has a 2.95 ERA since 2017 and has excelled in a variety of late-inning roles, putting the 28-year-old among the top tier of relievers available on the free-agent market.

I take their letting Bradley go to mean they have found there's no hope of unloading Iglesias's $9.125

How MLB is hurting free agents by dragging feet on National League DH rule for 2021
    Matt Snyder 41 mins ago

Generally speaking, any team heading into the offseason should know what direction it wants to take with every single aspect of the roster. That includes, of course, what positions need to be filled before the start of spring training. Thanks to Major League Baseball and the tireless tired leadership of commissioner Rob Manfred dragging their feet on a certain rule, half the league is going forward with a blind spot. Free agent players are getting shortchanged, too.

That rule would be the designated hitter rule.

Dec. 3: National League teams still don't know if they will use a designated hitter next season in NL-only games
We don't really need to beat around the bush on this one, do we? This is laughable.

Not only does it put many National League teams in a situation where they are trying to build their best roster possible, but they also have to have contingencies in place for either scenario.

The longer Major League Baseball drags its feet on this decision, the longer the NL teams and, as a result, many of these players and even then AL teams are getting jobbed in the offseason. This is far from the only problem MLB has this winter, but it's a problem nonetheless. Someone take control and make a damn decision already.

Mets in active talks with free-agent catcher James McCann, according to league sources. A deal is not yet close, but it is looking increasingly likely he will land a four-year deal.

Kyle Farmer agreed to a split contract. He'll make $640K in the big leagues, $175k if he's in the minors. #Reds

Paul Daugherty says Reds lost 100 million last year:

"Estimates of Baseball’s losses thanks to the plague vary widely, and clubs guard their books as if they were Hope Diamonds. I’ve heard the Reds lost something close to $100 million last year. The Cubs reportedly lost $140 mil."

If they don't let you see the books, why would anyone trust the claim?

It's fiction. A lie. Worse, it's meant to manipulate fans into hating the guys who actually play the game.

It also depends on what “lost” means.

If the Reds normally make $250 profit every season, and last year made $150M profit, they can claim they “lost” $100M.

So the Dodgers who extended Betts for all that money didnt loose any? I find it hard to believe the Reds lost 100 million
