Most of the Sox fans here aren't surprised they're happy. Most of them are Pats fans, too, they buy into if you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

I’m no Wade Miley fan but I’d much prefer the Miley contract to that.

Go ahead everyone, go take a gander at Ray’s numbers.

MLB owners want expanded playoffs in exchange for permanent universal DH, per report

"Is the DH even happening in the NL next year?

Still unclear. Players want it, sources said, but owners want the players to agree to expanded playoffs for the 2021 season in exchange. Understandably, the players don't find that to be a particularly equitable trade. The complicating factor is that most front offices would love it.
There's already plenty of enthusiasm within the game for a universal DH, and at some point it's almost certainly going to happen. The question is whether it happens in time for 2021. Passan's report indicates that having the DH in 2021 is more likely than it seemed mere days ago.

As for the expanded playoffs, 16 teams isn't likely. Rather, a 14-team field that includes a bye for the team with the best record in each league is the likely the path forward.

They'd need to offer up a heck of a lot more if they want expanded playoffs, I would think.

Perhaps a 26th and 27th roster spot might do it. (And an equal distribution of playoff monies between players and owners.)

Re: 2020-2021 Off-Season News, Notes and Discussion

I am strongly against expanding the rosters to 27 or 28. After watching a season where every other inning someone was replaced by someone else I can't believe MLB thinks most fans want that? MLB seems to be the only sport that progresses by doing things that most fans don't want. It's odd. I feel like other sports would've already banned the shift, tried to find ways to discourage the 3 true outcome approach and limited bullpen use. As I would argue most fans would be in favor of all that. MLB progresses by making their game less appealing to fans.

Jeff Luhnow is suing the Astros for breach of contract for making him the scapegoat for the Astros scandal in order to save over $22M in guaranteed salary.
