These were not players released. They were players who have been professionals long enough to reach free agency.

There were three or four names that surprised me, mostly because I didn't know they were still around. That's what a season without the minors does.

Two of them had retired, but for paperwork reasons had to be "declared as free agents".

    Bump

RZ thoughts on Andy Sugilio. OK, I know the power is lacking, but it looks as if he profiles as a ML CF'er. He doesn't K at high rate and he did show well at A+. Conventional thought is that the Reds can get by without premium CF defense because of the park. Thus, a tradeoff of defense for offense is warranted. I tend to value defense more than most on the board. Highlight reel catches that turn HR's into outs are becoming more valuable in the long ball era. (I like Michael Siani for this reason.). What kind of defensive OF'er is Sugilio?

Sugillo to me is just a guy. If you need someone to man CF at AA, get him. Otherwise, pass. Frankly I hope to see Siani at AA this year.

It will be interesting to see where all those Prasco Park kids play, for sure.

Siani should be in AA, with Friedl in AAA.

    Per @MLBRosterMoves
the New York #Yankees have signed
@daytonatortugas alumni OF Michael Beltre to a minor league contract.

Beltre slashed .272/.394/.374 with a .768 OPS in 71 games for Daytona in 2018 and 2019.

the Los Angeles #Angels inked 1B/OF Ibandel Isabel, another
@daytonatortugas alumnus, to a minor league deal.

    Isabel clubbed a @FloridaStateLg-record 35 HRs for Daytona in 2018. He slashed .258/.333/.566 with a 153 wRC+ in 104 games.

The Oakland #Athletics have re-signed Daytona alumni RHP Brian Schlitter to a minor league deal with an invite to MLB Spring Training.

He was 4-5 with 11 saves, a 2.14 ERA (20 ER in 84.0 IP), and 86 strikeouts over 62 relief appearances in 2008 and 2012.

Schllitter must have been a Cubs minor leaguer. He's got to be pretty old.

I was a big Sugilio guy. He's got high-end speed and some pop. Just didn't hit enough to show it all off on a consistent basis. Maybe a change of scenery will be good for him.
