No. Anyone who interprets that as being forced out is reading it wrong. But it does create a major power vacuum that unfortunately is probably going to be filled by the likes of Jocketty/Buddy Bell types.

This is a step back for the organization. I hope Krall has more power than I think.

Theo would be the dream, but I could also see Dave Dombrowski being in the mix for similar reasons.

Dombrowski is a win now guy, and Castellini isn’t getting any younger. Plus he’s available right now. He’s sort of the Dusty Baker of GMs.

How do you know he wasn't forced out?

My first thought was that he was asked to fire the manager but refused and resigned instead. It's plausible.

Nick Krall is as modern and advanced as any GM in baseball. I don’t see any back slipping at all.

Dombrowski's name keeps being connected to the opening in Anaheim but still nothing official there yet.

I'd certainly take Dombrowski or Theo. No idea obviously if the Reds are aiming that big or if those guys are interested. I sure wouldn't mind seeing them poach a guy from somewhere like Cleveland or Oakland.

I mean, “other than something had to change” is a big reason that shouldn’t be dismissed so lightly. I can’t see any reason why anyone would leave this job on their own volition.

You'll also note no one said it wasn't gonna happen, just that it wasn't gonna happen after ten games.

But if you want to run with it then do so

Does this put Bell on the hot seat? Maybe the Reds go with Krall/Bell this year, but then bring in their own person next off season and let them hire their own manager.

Blows my mind you still won’t admit it wasn’t 10 games. It was like 600. He was in charge for 5 seasons.

Bobby Nightengale said Williams told Castellini in August this was probably his last year...

I think this depends on who they bring in as the new VP. If it's an outsider then my guess is Bell is on a very short leash. If it's Krall, then Bell is probably breathing easier.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I’m all for giving you your glory but c’mon I think everyone but you is going to understand WOY meant 10 games into the season.

It has all the indications that Williams said he wanted to quit then, and Castellini told him to not rush into it.

If I was Bauer, this might give me a little pause about signing back here. Williams/Krall were all about the analytics. Who knows if the next guy might be traditionalist and want to exorcise all the Driveline types.
