Very sad to hear this. I know it's been a crazy year, but I could have sworn I heard him on tv or radio earlier this year and he was doing a lot better. I guess it could have been last year.

Yeah people are starting to suspect Bob Nightengale has possibly made his biggest screw up yet.

Well, it seems like AP and Joe Kay have it now.

Unfortunately, it has been confirmed by the AP.

CINCINNATI -- Joe Morgan, the Hall of Fame second baseman who became the sparkplug of the Big Red Machine and the prototype for baseball’s artificial turf era, has died. He was 77.

He died at his home Sunday in Danville, California, a family spokesman said Monday. Morgan was suffering from a nerve condition, a form of polyneuropathy.

Morgan's death marked the latest among major league greats this year: Whitey Ford, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Tom Seaver and Al Kaline.

Damn, this sucks. I was born in 1977, but I’ve always enjoyed the history of the franchise/sport and sometime in the early to mid 90s I was able to get a VHS copy of games 6/7 of the 1975 WS and I wore those tapes out. Morgan was my “favorite” player on the BRM. RIP.

Pretty much the perfect baseball player. He's the reason why the BRM are in best ever arguments. He was so good in 1975 and 1976 it was almost surreal. I will never have a greater feeling of surety than I did in my youth in the 9th inning of the 1975 World Series when Joe Morgan stepped to the plate with two outs against Jim Burton.

    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

This. I’m guessing his bloop single and passing are nearly 45 years apart to the day. Always have and always will defend that no second baseman was better than you. What confidence you inspired, and a gentleman on the two occasions we crossed paths.

    Rest In Peace, Joe.
