    Re: Rip Joe Morgan

So terribly sad to hear this news. As a little kid in Cincy he was my first sports hero. I had his poster on my wall. You only get a few bigger than life heroes as a kid before you recognize they're just people like the rest of us. I realize how incredibly spoiled I was as a child to have Morgan and the Big Red Machine. I feel like I've spent countless hours arguing his greatness over beers in bars with fellow baseball fans. At his peak, Joe Morgan had perhaps one of the best if not the best seasons ever in '75-'76. I remember reading an article that Morgan was the greatest "percentages" player ever....meaning on base percentage, stolen base percentage and defensive chances percentage. Truly one of all the all time greats. This one hits hard and very close to home. RIP Joe Morgan.

Well this sucks. 2020 just keeps on being awful.

RIP to an all time Reds, and MLB, legend.

Sad news. It is weird to think about how a Big Red Machine legend is gone.

RIP to one of the greatest ball players I ever had the privilege to watch growing-up. Did not know he was even sick or ill.

Getting old and watching our heroes and cultural icons die from that era is tough. I'm having a hard time watching anything nostalgic right now because of it this year in particular.

I know he wasn't everyone's cup of tea as a broadcaster, but I really enjoyed listening to Joe and Jon Miller on ESPN. To me those Sunday night games haven't been the same without Joe and Jon. Rest in peace.

RIP Joe. He was my favorite baseball player as a child, when I loved the game without context, or conditions. I wore #8 in all the sports I wore a uniform, not just baseball. The deaths of Joe and Eddie Van Halen, childhood hero, in such close proximity, lie heavy with me.

Me too! This is just the start of it. Rose and Perez are older than Joe and Johnny Bench is in his mid 70s now. I thought my youth was trashed when Rose was banned, and what happened concerning that era wouldn't bother me any more. I was wrong. I'm genuinely sad at this news.

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I made a post on the Whitey Ford thread about how competitive a team made up of players who have passed on in 2020 would be. Well, now I think they are making the statement that they want to win the whole thing.

    Re: Rip Joe Morgan

I always loved when he was on first base with a lead knowing he was going sooner or later. I miss that part of baseball now.

Imagine being the pitcher with Morgan on first then having to face Bench, Perez and/or Foster. That had to be some major multi tasking on the pitchers part.

    Oh no.
The first brick has fallen from the edifice. Unfortunately, having grown up deep in the West Side, my appreciation for Joe was overshadowed by the worship of Pete in the community, but we all know it was Morgan who made the the Big Red Machine complete.
You've got those two feet on the carpet Joe, and you're free now.
