I think that's one reason why the Reds were able to sign him, they said he could play the field.
I don't think Castanellos would leave the Reds to go to another team that would make him a DH.
I think this is a "money isn't everything" kind of case.

That said, Castanellos reads the same stuff we do. He's heard the quote that implies that if he and/or Bauer leaves, they aren't likely to be replaced. So if he declares FA, the Reds aren't going to be a fallback choice. I think the Reds gave him the most
attractive deal last winter. He didn't exactly have a monster season, so I just assume he will stay a Red for 2021.
You could be right, but it's not a booming market for bats this winter. They might do the calculation that he stands to make more if he posts big numbers in 2021. Yet there might be money out there for him this winter.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Shogo was dramatically turning things around in Sept. He was hitting .196 thru Aug. But in September he hit .317 with 15 walks. He raised his on base from .274 on Sept 1st, to .357 by end of the season. That was his adjustment period so I think we can say he has big upside next year.

And Stephenson could be ready to make the leap and provide a true offensive catcher.
I hope Shogo has a good season next year, but I am not optimistic.
He has zero power. Eventually pitchers will learn to challenge him and never walk him, so a lot of those walks will dry up.
Of course, he will still get some when the pitcher just can't get the ball over, but I would not expect him to maintain the OBP.
Again, I hope I am wrong, I am trying to be realistic though.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Lots of reasons for optimism offensively, assuming we focus on, as KC says, the back of the baseball card and not the limited scale of 2020. (And even then, some good from peripherals.)

This offense would seem to have a high floor at six positions, unknowns at two spots, and a black hole at the last. (This assumes a DH.)

Addressing the black hole would be the most helpful.
