Yeah, it makes me realize that there should be 4 categories: Overrated by Reds fans, underrated by Reds fans, overrated by baseball fans in general and underrated by baseball fans in general. I think Joey would find himself listed in all four categories where I doubt Adam Dunn would find himself in either of the general fans categories.

The Reds got Franco and Ted Power from the Dodgers in separate trades in the 80's. One of my favorite quotes was - 'The Dodgers are building a pretty good bullpen. The only problem is they are building it in Cincinnati.'

Kevin Mitchell's hitting in 93-94 was Frank "the big hunk" Thomas like. Send your girl a youtube of his highlights...she'll like it too.

He’s the genuine article. I’m semi-distantly related by marriage. Great guy.

I had a nickname for Franco during his time with the Reds.
Since he almost always slammed the door when he came in the game. I called him The HAMMER.

John Franco is Exhibit A of how the HOF doesn’t know how to value relievers.

He was one of the best closers of all time, yet got only 4.6 of the votes in his first year, so was 1 and done.

Bill James has him at 109 in his Hall of Fame Monitor, where 100 is a likely HOFer.

Apparently the Reds' Hall of Fame has the same issue. How does Wayne Granger get in after 2 great seasons and nothing else while John Franco has been ignored with 6 great seasons in Cincinnati.

In all fairness to Granger, had they had the DH back then, it wouldn't have happened.

I was in 7th grade classroom that day. I kept complaining to one of my best friends(to this day) that it's ridiculous that it's game 3 and the Reds hadn't used Wayne Granger yet in two one run losses that the Reds had decent leads in. He basically told me I was full of it for some reason or another and probably that Sparky knows better than I do. Then the teacher turned on the game for us to watch the last 10 minutes of that class and when he came in I looked at that friend and said "there, that's what they should've done in the first 2 games". Then he serves up the salami to McNally and he proceeded to ridicule me for the rest of series.

Appearances, his 1969 season set the record for most games by a pitcher

Fine, but I'm not arguing against Granger in Reds HOF, I'm arguing for Franco and while Granger was great for 2 seasons, little Johnny was a better pitcher for the Red for a longer period of time. And those appearances was a big factor in what got Dave Bristol fired(not a knock on Granger, just that it wasn't a good thing).
