David Weathers was a guy that people seemingly wanted to replace as soon as he got to Cincinnati and every offseason after because he was old and about to fall off a cliff, and he wound up giving them 4 1/2 good years in that bullpen.

    Good one.

I’d add Francisco Cordero as now being underrated.

Saved 150 games for the Reds in four years. Got a big contract, maybe wasn’t worth it, but saved 40 games when Reds won the division in 2010.

This is a tough one regarding WS MVP. Being heavy underdogs and sweeping, it's difficult not to give it to the pitcher who gave up a total of one run in 15.1 innings pitched in games 1 and 4. Especially game 4 where if the Reds lose, they would have to play out the series without both Hatch and Davis. I also thought Sabo had to be considered. Hatcher did have probably the greatest offensive world series ever, and his name will be in the history books forever, but due to the way the games played out, if you gave me a choice between only being allowed to replay the series with Rijo or Hatcher, I'd have to take our ace.

In 1981, they had 3 co-MVPs with the Dodgers, seems to me they should've at least done 2 co-mvps in 1990.

Both great choices. I feel like Griffey almost always came up big when it mattered.

Ken Griffey kind of did it to himself. He's certainly underrated. One because he was the 6th best offensive weapon of the great eight and 7th best overall player. He was behind the 8-ball for playing for such a great team. However, if he would've named his son "Tom", or "Jim" or "Bob" he wouldn't be known as the 2nd best Ken Griffey to play the game.

Looking at Clay Carroll's stats, to me he should be borderline HOFer that loses out because it takes almost superman stats(and/or a great handlebar mustache) to get there as a reliever. But he was consistent for a long time and very versatile. He could start and give you 6 innings, middle relief and give you 4 innings, set up man with 2 or 3 innings and closer with 1, 2 or 3 innings. With Clay Carroll, you always had a very reliable closer if nobody else stepped up to be that guy. For most of his seasons, someone else did step up to allow us to use Clay Carroll in all other roles. But there was a year or two where he was the only one.

Scott Sullivan was a dominant middle reliever with a rubber arm for 7 straight seasons. We really don’t see guys like him anymore.

Timing made Abby one of my least favorite Reds of all time. I became a fan in 1968 and my 2nd game I went to in September, he ruined a gem of a pitching match between Nolan and Gibson by giving up HR to Javier on first pitch in top of 10th for 1-0 loss. He then seemed to give up bombs every time he pitched the rest of the season. I wanted him gone and apparently so did Howsam as he was let go and he went and got Wayne Granger(sidearmer to replace the submarine pitcher) who became one of my all-time favorites.

And btw, since relief pitchers seem to be prevalent in this topic, the most underrated of all will be John Franco until the Reds put him in their hall of fame.
