What would you say.....ya do here?
How about Hunter Greene and Jonathon India for Wander Franco? Who says no?
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
How about something with the primary pieces being Matt Chapman to the Reds and Senzel plus prospects to the A’s? I can’t remember if the A’s are Rays-level aggressive about selling off their guys, but Chapman is in his 2nd year of arb next year.

Reds should hang onto Greene. I doubt he makes huge difference in any trade this offseason anyway. If anything you shine him up and trade in a year.

I was behind a flatbed truck moving a statue of Mr. Redlegs from the stadium to North I-71 this morning. I'll be interested to find out what we're getting in return for him.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

It's essentially a no-brainer the other way. The Rays are probably the most successful small market club. They do it by remembering who they are and how they operate. They acquire young cheap talent, They use them while they are cost efficient, and then trade them to a big market club when they start getting expensive, for more young cheap talent. It's how they can compete.
This is exactly what they did with Chris Archer. They trade for Archer as a minor leaguer. He pitched for essentially league minimum for 3 years, then signed a back-loaded contract. As soon as it started getting expensive they traded him to Pirates for some great young, cheap talent.
It went horribly bad for Pirates, because they forgot who they were. They gave up young cheap talent when they NEED cheap young talent. And took on a big salary. When a player from the Yankees underperforms, they pay his salary with the change that falls between the cushions. When Archer failed, it crippled the Pirates.
We are the Rays. We are the Pirates. We can't afford to ship cheap talent for expensive talent.
We need to milk the next 6 to 7 years of Hunter Greene, and then ship him off to the Dodgers/Yankees/Angels for a boatload of talent.
I predict over the next 5 years Greene will be just as productive as Snell. For a fraction of the cost.

Reds could really use Matt Chapman - they only have two third basemen in their infield, why not three? If they move Castellanos to first base, as some suggest, they could have four.
Of course, can always convert Suarez or Moose to OF to replace Senzel. Maybe an OF of Winker, Suarez, and Cast. Or brush off the Suarez to shortstop concept. Or maybe Suarez can do some catching.
Reds also have a third baseman, India, in the minors. Add him too. Never have too many third basemen.

The Rays have one advantage that no other team in baseball has. They get absolutely no pushback at all from their fanbase whenever they trade a talented and established (but still youngish) player for more lottery tickets. Because they have no fanbase. They don't have to worry about pissing off the season ticket holders or the sponsors. Nobody cares about the Rays, so they can wheel and deal with impunity.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.
Reds don’t have enough young talent on their team.
Team is older, slower, bad defensively. Getting expensive.
It’s time now to develop some kids and add them to the mix.
I’d try to avoid trading top prospects for veterans at this point.

I mostly agree with you, but that's not the point of this thread Kc.
I do think the Reds will be mindful not to jettison more athletic players considering their current makeup, but man it's really tempting to send Nick Senzel packing if the right deal comes along. Is a guy like Winker considered young anymore? He's a young player in an old body. I wouldn't but upset if they dealt either player, mostly because they already have in-house replacements for them ready to go.
If the Reds aren't able to sign Bauer, I really like the Snell idea. And of course Senzel is a guy the Ray would snag and turn into a perennial all-star. But I am fine with the Reds doubling-down on SP and having 3 elite starters for the next 3 seasons.
I'd like to see the Reds turn Jesse Winker and Raisel Iglesias into something magical, but I'm just not sure what that is.
Point of the thread should be realistic trades that further Reds needs. Some I’ve read so far do not IMO.
Me, I’m not trading the top farmhands unless it’s a heist. Reds are too old and slow. They need the top young kids to develop and don’t have many.
Trading for another third baseman makes no sense to me unless one also deals with Suarez and Moose.
Snell is very good pitcher but has had injury. Only threw over 130 innings once in his career. Wouldn’t trade Hunter Greene for him but another package, I’d listen.
I’d trade Iglesias, yes, he’s “sell high.” Get a high level prospect, sure. Winker? Depends on NL DH rule. But if you trade him, better get a starting middle infielder who can hit and field.
So yeah, there are deals that make sense for the Reds and are worth discussing.
