I honestly can’t figure this out. Greene is a lottery ticket. I know he is hyped, throws really hard, and could be special. On the flip his arm has already required TJ and he is about as unproven as prospects come. He has pitched a grand total of 72.2 innings since being drafted in 2017!

Snell is a sure-fire cy young candidate (he already has one) controlled through 2023. He was a mega millions ticket that hit and made someone a multi millionaire.

I get coveting prospects, but this would be a no-brainer.
Blake Snell has pitched 1 complete season in his 5 year big league career. He has averaged 5 innings per start with a 3.29 ERA/3.51FIP. He has had 1 excellent season surrounded by injuries issues and average to above average performance.

Let's not act like 2018 Blake Snell is every year Blake Snell. Greene could absolutely have a better first 5 full seasons than than Snell. 13.0 fWAR (I extrapolated Snell's 2020 to a full season) over the first 5 years isn't crazy, definitely good but Snell has been derailed by his inability to stay on the field. And is certainly in the realm of possibilities for a guy as talented as Greene in an organization like the Reds to surpass that. Also, Greene, by his own reports, threw over 100 innings this season without issues.
"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.

If Reds were really going to go the major trade route - which I doubt - they could trade any of the five major hitters.

Float all of them and see what you get for each. Then determine the deal by comparing the proposals in terms of playing and financial value and fit. Include consideration of buying free agents with freed up money.

Who knows whether Suarez, Winker, Castellanos, Votto, or Moose brings the best return all things considered.
One would guess Votto and Moose bring the least because they are expensive players with no opt outs.

Reds could reconfigure defensively regardless who goes. They are all essentially corner players or DHs.

Sure. I’m on board with that. I was just spit balling what I thought would draw the best return. Never silo yourself if you’re actually the one building the roster in real life.

I think they’d be better off with Bryant in LF and Winker at DH

With the news that Snell is on the block, I decided to run a deal through the Baseball Trade Values website to get this...

    TBR gets:
    OF Senzel
    OF Siani

    CIN gets:
    OF Kiermeier
    LH Snell

This would be a no brainer for the reds. I don’t think Rays would do it.

Snell is an elite starting pitcher for 5 maybe 6 innings. His true value isn’t as high as his current trade value. It has some helium right now coming off a World Series appearance and his elite arm.

Unless a team thinks they can successfully stretch him out to go deep into games, they shouldn’t give up a kings ransom for him. My guess someone will, and regret it.

    I’m inclined to agree

I wouldn’t trade more than a Mike Clevinger type offer for Snell, probably. Clevinger honestly might have a better track record than Snell does, Cy Young trophy aside.

Winker, Barnhart and Lodolo for Snell and Adames
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I'd do this, but something tells me that Lodolo would make us regret that trade for years.

That’d be a fleecing for the Braves

Just curious, if Gray is on the market does that imply the Reds aren't interested in bringing in other established big leaguers? Thus, talks of getting Bryant, Snell, or whoever aren't realistic?
