Dumb opinion, the crowd that’s infested this board over the last few years that insists on only analyzing trades through hindsight is one of the most irritating RZ developments ever.
They were a World Series contender level team in 2012, it was the time to go for it. Maybe they should’ve predicted they were going to get bounced in the wild card game for some reason, though.

Loved that trade and I still do. Choo was a monster and made them a true WS contender. They should’ve won it all that season.
That said, Reds need a SS. Didi is a good option. Reds might be in a good position to give him a third year. I say go for. He can be moved to 2B for the final year. Reds need good up the middle players, Gregorius has a good chance to be a solod bang for buck.

Yeah, I've just had to come to grips with the reality that Bauer isn't coming back. I get he likes the Reds coaches and organizations forward philosophy on analytics and the science of baseball with driveline, but I just don't see any way he takes what the Reds could offer him over a high level contender that can offer him much more.
Pretty much, yeah. The big spenders always find a way to sign the top SP on the market, year after year.
I'm ok with that. Didi and a guy like Robbie Ray would be enough for me when it comes to the bigger free-agents. There will be a lot of good deals to fill up other holes in the roster and Reds can look to trade guys like Barnhart, Iglesias and possibly Winker to bolster the team.

You're right. I was confusing '12 with '13. '12 they should've won it all. 2013 was the Heisey/Xavier Paul platoon with Choo in CF. And yes, Ludwick going down was the ominous moment they could never shake that season, but the biggest difference between 12 and 13 was Cueto.

Whatever you do, do your best to not allow the struggles of life to interfere with the pleasures of living.

your opinion is awful.
see how easy that is? now try and think deeper.
it's never OK for a small-market team like the reds to trade a valuable, young prospect who is under team control for 6+ years for a one-year rental. the yankees can get away with doing stuff like that, because then they can just buy whatever players they need. the reds trading away 6+ years of didi for 1 year of choo was a disaster any way you want to try and foolishly spin it.
then ludwick gets hurt on opening day, and they do nothing to address the gaping hole in left field. nothing. they were willing to trade didi away for a rental, but when it was time to find a stopgap while ludwick was out for months (and even when he returned he couldn't really play because his shoulder was shot) they sat on their hands and did nothing.
so, they followed up a bad trade with a decision to do nothing else to help the 2013 roster. typical reds, never really having a true plan. "we're going for it! we're trading didi for a one-year rental of choo!" *ludwick suffers serious injury, must find a replacement for him* "ah, screw it, let's just do nothing and pray for the best!"

It's totally OK for a small-market team to makes those types of trades, especially when the prospects are not grade-A and your team looks to be on the verge of greatness. Reds got a superb year out of Choo, probably (definitely?) the best offensive season in recent Reds history by guys not named Votto. Plus they received a comp pick (which became Blandino - you win some, you lose some) from Choo's QO.
Didi wasn't exactly a slam-dunk prospect when they traded him. He had a lot of warts, and a it wasn't until he was traded to the Yankees that it all (mostly) came together. He still has a lot of holes in his game.

it was a 3-team trade.
team A got choo for 1 year.
team B got trevor bauer for 6+ years.
team C got didi for 6+ years.
it's pretty damn clear IMO that teams B and C won that trade by a landslide.

No matter how many times you repeat it, still doesn't make it so. If you want to argue the Reds should have moved Cozart instead of Didi, have at it. They moved the SS they weren't going to play for a primo bat on a contending team. I mean, I guess not trying and refusing to make roster choices is on brand for the 21st century Reds, but I don't get pounding your keyboard defending it.
I'm not a system player. I am a system.
