It's just not realistic. The people in charge used up their goodwill and there's no way a majority of the public will go along with it. Most businesses can't sustain a winter shutdown either.
The problem is that when a vaccine is finally here, chances are it's going to be a temporary benefit, as the virus is constantly mutating. There's several strains spreading around the world right now of varying severities. My hope is that once you have a vaccine for one, they're easy to adjust to deal with regional/seasonal versions of the virus. Given that it's 2020, I'm not getting my hopes up though.
COVID doesn’t mutate that rapidly as I understand it. When the vaccines arrive, we’ll be good. That’s also the benefit of those mRNA vaccines, they’re pretty adjustable, if one of them ends up being approved.
I actually tend to agree that shutting down restaurants or whatever probably won’t make a big difference at this point as DeWine threatened here in Ohio, but I honestly don’t think there’s a choice if our hospitals are on the verge of collapsing.
They desperately need to cut out the red tape and give that Pfizer vaccine the EUA and start vaccinating healthcare workers, like yesterday.
