Seems like he's a high-spin, average velo, no control kind of guy.

    Spincinnati continues.

I like the Bailey addition. I'm a fan of grabbing pitchability guys like him who quietly put together solid work in college and the minors, maybe it doesn't work but he's just a depth arm and sometimes those guys can surprise.

    Re: Rule 5 draft

Glad Riley O’Brien was protected. Probably needs some AAA exposure, but looks like another decent BOR candidate. Reds might need him during the season. Walk rate a bit high, but otherwise consistent, solid minor league numbers.

I’d like to see Antone stay in the pen another year, that’s where he was very effective. Reds need him there. Would expect Miley and Lorenzen to fill out rotation unless others are acquired.

A depth guy like O’Brien can really come in handy if there are injuries to fill out the rotation. Pending, of course, Lodolo, Greene, etc. who may be slightly further away from the bigs right now.

Looks like the Angels didn't protect Packy Naughton. Reds need a lefty in the bullpen and are familiar with Packy. Would make sense to select him.

Left unprotected: LAD SS Omar Estevez hit 291 as a 21yo in AA, pedigree (6M bonus) and production.

    Re: Rule 5 draft

I want Reds to grab a couple guys in Rule 5, just to take a look. But I want some high cancelling guys. Naughton doesn't check that box for me. Estevez might. Got to see his stats.

I like what I see from Estevez. And it makes sense to grab guys from deep systems. We just grabbed one from Houston.

Reportedly Estevez does not have a great arm and is more suited to 2b, so it will be up to his bat but we are talking rule 5 here. The Dodgers paid 6 mill bonus and 6 mill penalty to sign him from Cuba. He had a sore shoulder in spring training. I assume it is healed as he was added to the 60 man roster later.

Yes. I noticed that he had played almost as many games at 2B as SS. Further, he does not have a high SB total. Moreover, he has played in hitters' leagues. Easy to see why he wasn't protected.

    2 guys I like are:

    1) Thomas Burroughs-lhp Atlanta-#25, could be a nice lefty in pen

    2) Kevin Maitan-3b/ss/2b Angels #25 might be able to stash as a utility guy for a year, former top signing

    Re: Rule 5 draft

I admire fans who follow potential Rule 5 acquisitions. It shows intense interest in the bottom part of Reds’ roster.

For me, it’s spinning wheels. Rule 5 draftees are mostly returned to sender. Last year, Reds actually traded for Payton who was marginally helpful. That’s a GOOD result.

Once in a lifetime, a Josh Hamilton situation. And rebuilding teams always can use an extra decent young guy.

But overall, it’s one area of Reds baseball I can’t get into. Glad there are some members here who keep us posted.
