    Re: Rule 5 draft

On the one hand, I think that this year's rule 5 draft will be a non-event. With little to no 2020 visibility taking a player is an even greater gamble than in most years.

On the other hand, the recent upsurge in Covid makes it more likely that this year will be played under the same rules as last year. Thus, the extra players might make it easier to carry a player than a normal year.

The pandemic and lack of resources (relatively speaking) might mean for fewer Rule 5 guys too. While they're cheap, they also have to be kept on the big club all year. (This assumes that business is back to normal, of course.)

My fun thought: We're going to see a few real interesting picks based off of what happened at the alternate sites that, for the most part, we the public, have no clue of happening. Not all teams shared video and Trackman data, but most did. So teams can parse through that and see this stuff from players in other organizations.

Obviously the guys who wound up at the alternate sites aren't unknown prospects - but it'll be interesting to see if someone gets plucked, or protected even (not just for the Reds/by the Reds) and what is said about them and "what they've shown at the alternate site".

The #reds 40 man roster additions:
    RHP Vladimir Gutierrez,
    RHP Riley O’Brien
    & RHP Jared Solomon

The #reds also acquired RHP Brandon Bailey from the Astros for cash. And minor lg RHP Freddy Medina was acquired to complete B. Raley trade on 8/9.

I think Bailey might have been added to 40, but not sure

Brandon "Homer" Bailey was the Astros' #30 prospect.

From the #Reds: Added to the 40-man roster
    RHP Vladimir Gutierrez,
    RHP Riley O’Brien
    & RHP Jared Solomon
    and acquired from the
Astros RHP Brandon Bailey in exchange for cash.

With those 4 additions, the Reds have 36 players on their 40-man roster.

Bailey has some nice numbers. Reliever in majors, starter mostly in minors.

Bailey made his big-league debut last year for Houston out of the bullpen, but has traditionally been a starter. He was 4-5 with a 3.30 in 22 appearances and 17 starts in 2019 at AA Corpus Christi with 103 Ks & 41 BB in 92.2 IP.

Bailey has 2 options. They need more guys for the AAA shuttle. Nice pick-up.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Rays DFA'd our buddy Brian O'Grady to make room on their roster.
