I didn't expect to be listening to something new from Tom Jones in 2021, but this song is great (and the album is pretty good, too).

It's completely different arrangement than what you've ever heard before. Just amazing, and one of my favorite live performances ever.

My buddy's new record came out today, and it's fantastic. Wilco fans, take heed — Ken Coomer produced it.

I've been trying to listen to more music from places other than the U.S. and I stumbled upon this pretty awesome band from Spain called Bala. They kind of sound like Local H plus Bikini Kill plus Sonic Youth.

How about a newly released old tune from the archives of Radiohead’s most acclaimed period:

I've been listening to Eva Cassidy a lot lately. She died in '96 and most of her music has been released after her death. Amazing talent and a shame she died before she saw the level of success she's had posthumously. Most of her recordings were covers, but she had an amazing voice and her interpretation of the songs she did was spot on mostly.

Great version of this Simon & Garfunkel tune here.

Big blown out rock from Philadelphia. Birds of Maya are tied into the same scene as Purling Hiss, The War on Drugs and Kurt Vile. Not entirely sure why--maybe the vocals?--I get a heavier MC5 vibe. Despite the popularity of the above-named bands, I don't feel like you hear much of this maximalist, guitar-forward rock 'n roll anymore (and Granduciel and Vile are way mellower these days). Brings me back to the early 2000s when it felt like bands like this were always coming through town.
