No, but their martyr stance is being polished like a turd

The Phillies should also be in that category you’d think

It’s totally possible they realized wheeler isn’t worth his contract are using this as an excuse to dump him.

He just put up a sub 3 ERA season. His K’s were down, but he also basically did not give up home runs at all at a .38 HR/9. I think the Phillies should be able to afford him either way. They’re one of the biggest markets in the game.

There's another way to look at this Wheeler rumor: it could be a third team that wants to trade for Gray trying to soften the Reds ask. Which means the Reds are making a big ask and holding firm. (Or else the lines I'm reading between are a mirage.)

If the Reds move Sonny and do not get a massive haul for him, I will be done with this franchise. I'm only a few hours drive to DC or Atl. Probably just convert while my kids are still young enough to not be raised a Reds fan. World's tough enough already. No need to pile misery on from such a young age.

Not that I'm against trading him, but the return has to be bananas given his performance and contract.

Yep, unless the return is something so absurd that the other time would basically be totally stupid (like Acuna Jr. type of dumb) I would be done. That would be it for me. I'm planning on moving to Florida in February, and if they trade Gray for anything less than totally absurd I won't get MLB.TV, and that will be it for me as a Reds fan. There would no longer be a point in following the team.

It was also said that they wouldn't trade Zach Wheeler for Babe Ruth. So, truthfulness might not be their strong suit.

I wouldn't do that. Babe Ruth is very dead.

    This offseason is developing poorly.

For every team. Nobody is doing anything other than cut players and sign a couple MOR arms to 1 year deals. This is a beyond strange offseason. It’s now the 2nd week of December. Weird stuff.

I'm not overly shocked considering the frugality of most MLB owners.

Re: Sherman: Reds are “working hard” to trade right-hander Sonny Gray

I'm wondering what framework or concept a trade Gray might have.
Do you think the Reds are dangling Sonny Gray in the same way as the Red Sox when they traded Betts to rid of David Shields?..
So Gray and Cast in a package, or? or even Votto (as if there is any chance of that)
The Sox had the Dodgers take an expensive David Price, but also sent some money and still got some young players back.

Also, one more tiny thought: Castellanos for Trevor Story. Who says no? Trevor is our shortstop for one year (and admittedly after arbitration I suppose he makes 5 mil more than Cast? But for better team balance and an excellent shortstop for next year? This might work if the Rockies need an outfielder.
