Yeah, I suspect that's it for Simone Biles if this summer is off. She says the training is just too hard on her body. And gymnastics isn't really a sport where you can take it easy on the training. It would be a terrible shame to not see her competing in the Olympics again.

    Fauci already disputed this.

We're already at 1 million shots a day. We're going to easily get 100 million.

But I don't think that's fair because it's natural that the beginning will be slower. We're now doing very well.

The biggest issue in the current plan is that there is a breakdown in information between the vaccine makers and the state and local agencies on how much they should expect to get. It's causing a lot of inefficiencies at pretty much every point of the supply chain so to speak. So when they say there isn't any real plan and having to start from scratch, that is what they mean.

Dewine and other governors have talked about their frustration with this, about how they are basically just guessing at how much vaccine they are expecting to get. That has led to some situations where they get more than they thought and didn't have enough appointments scheduled and are scrambling to give it out and in some cases throwing away vaccine or like what happened in New Jersey this week where they had to cancel thousands of appointments because the opposite happened and they didn't get enough.

Knowing that we are close to 1 million shots a day already, the real goal should be 150 million in 100 days. Biden got a bit testy with a reporter who asked if 100 million in 100 days was a high enough goal. From what I saw on Twitter, most people don't know how many have been given the last week. It will be disappointing if the media allows 100 million in 100 days to be celebrated as an accomplishment when we should be striving for much more than that.

Anecdotally, Clark County Ohio received 300 vaccines the first couple of weeks. This week they received 1800. Next week they will get 2750. So things are moving in the right direction.

DeWine wrote Biden a letter outlining Ohio's needs. The first two items (bolded items were bolded in the letter):

"1. The most important thing you can do is to get us more vaccine. We can deal with most of the other challenges surrounding its distribution, but the need for more is an imperative.

    2. Ohio is prepared to move to mass vaccine and mobile distribution sites. In fact, we have identified more than 100 sites so far. We would welcome the federal government coming in and setting up mass sites, but only if it means that more vaccine is coming into Ohio. We are not lacking the infrastructure. We are lacking the vaccine.

The goal should really be 200 million. If we did 200 million in 100 days, by May 1 Covid cases would be WAY, WAY down, and Covid deaths would be less than 10 a day (assuming they vaccinated the most vulnerable during those 100 days).

The last administration didn't mention the virus for weeks, nothing, zilch from Trump.

But currently the guys who's been in office for forty hours is dogging it

That's about all I read in your posts

The very fact that we are even arguing about goals/benchmarks, if we have what we need to achieve them, if need to aim higher, etc. -- is such a breath of fresh air. As long as we're focused on actual problem-solving, we're in good shape.

What I'm curious about here is if this is true and Ohio needs more vaccine than why is there 600k doses apparently unused in Ohio according to the trackers? Is the data wrong? Are they holding it back even though they said they weren't? Are people not signing up for appointments?

I'm all for Dewine asking for more vaccine, but if only 44% of what is shipped has been used what's going on?

The 100M vaccines in 100 days is just a benchmark, for PR reasons. It’s not like if they hit a million vaccines given in a day, they stop. They are working on many fronts to produce, distribute and get into arms as many vaccines as they can, hoping they can blow away the artificial benchmark that they set.

BTW, one cool way that they are doing this, is to fast track a new syringe that is able to get an extra dose out of every bottle, from 5 to 6. It still needs approval, but if approved and distributed to everyone, it would increase the number of vaccines given by 20%.

I believe unused means not distributed, not reserved, not scheduled ... whatever.

    Truly alpha/beta, here or gone.

If there is a problem getting it out that's part of the new plan, leveraging FEMA to get more needles on the street and people in line to get them

Of course, but it's a bad goal. People are supposed to set goals to challenge themselves (and others). People also tend to get fixated on goals and satisfied when they meet them. They should really set a goal that's not a layup. 200 million might be too ambitious, but how about a goal that in 100 days they'll be giving 2 million doses/day? Keep the ambitions high and don't allow people to settle for meeting an easy target. Make it something they need to improve as a team every day for 100 days to meet.
