One in three COVID vaccine doses *in the world* have been administered in the US

If you take out China (which we should b/c their data is completely unreliable), then 42% of all COVID vaccinations have been in the United States

Do you need some kind of license to administer shots? Like a nurse/doctor? Or can anyone with some type of training do this?
You need to be a medical professional

On top of money to help fund vaccinations efforts, he wants to establish 100 vaccination centers around the country by the end of February (e.g. in stadiums) and have mobile vaccination units. Also plans to invoke the defense production act to increase production.

We're doing more and more vaccinations every day. We're one of the best in the world at doing this. You can have 100 vaccination units around the country and mobile units as well, but you still need 1) enough supplies from Pfizer, etc. and 2) the medical personnel to do it. Either way, I just don't see how the Feds are going to make this much faster by the time they start doing this.

It just sounds like we're going to transfer these appointments from local places like local hospitals to stadiums? Will this make things more efficient?

Mr. Biden wants to quicken the pace of vaccinations with a $20 billion national vaccination program. He has set a target of administering 100 million doses of the vaccine during the first 100 days of his presidency. The U.S. is administering close to 1 million doses a day now, but Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told The Wall Street Journal, “We would prefer to underpromise and overdeliver.”

To accelerate vaccinations, he said his administration will work with federal, state and local officials to set up thousands of community vaccination centers across the country and deploy mobile units to rural and underserved areas. Mr. Biden promised 100 federally supported centers by the end of his first month in office. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will help set them up, and the federal government will increase reimbursements to states deploying the National Guard to help with vaccinations. Mr. Biden also said he aims to increase the pace of vaccinations by making shots available at independent and chain pharmacies beginning in February.

100 in 100 is a big nothing. That number needs to be blown away in 100 days.

Sounds like there was plenty to complain about since there was no plan apparently.

Basic math suggests we need to do close to double that to get to herd immunity by the summer.

I don't know how well it's going to work. You asked what they plan to do, I told you. If/when it happens feel free to compare the before and after vaccination rates.

To get 100 million people vaccinated with the current vaccines, you need 200 million doses. So 1 million vaccinations a day won't get you to 100 million folks being fully vaccinated in 100 days, the current rate is not nearly enough.

That's not what they're saying, though. They're saying 100 million doses administered.

Probably won't reach herd immunity by the start of summer, but vaccinating the highest at risk first combined with around a third of the country already having had covid (yes, there will be overlap) should put us in position to lift restrictions by June or July.

We just had the second day over 1M. Could be a back log from slower days over the weekend or could be progress. If it’s progress that’s great and pushing to 2M plus a day starts to become realistic.

Bad news is Japan is going to cancel the Olympics this summer.

I’ve been in favor of most sports pushing through all of this but having an international Olympics really seems like a bad idea if we aren’t sure what things will be like this summer.

Yeah I’m not sure how it wouldn’t work with all the planning and logistics required right now.

Hopefully they can figure out some type of competition for some of the sports like gymnastics that have such a small window open to the athletes.
