Did they? I don't know what their contract situation was back then, but only one of these contracts was in force in 2014 and that was Posey and it was at 10 million per year not 22. As they have accumulated these bad contracts, they have had 4 straight sub .500 records.

They paid stupid money for the Freddy Sanchezes and Angel Pagans of the world. They had a mania for handing multi-year contracts to unexceptional thirtysomething players. They were shelling out for Barry Zito too. Nothing they did made a lick of sense and they won three World Series. Bad contracts are their jam.

Oh yea, I agree with you. I doubt the Reds wanted Disco back at what he was asking for. If Disco was willing to come back at a 1 million/year or less, then sure.
I'm not saying it was wise to give Disco 6 million, just happy for him that he got paid and I hope he does well. All in all, I have positive memories of him and wish him well.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

More power to him, but the past three seasons he's been a 5 IP starter with a 4.62 ERA. So I'm glad someone else is paying for him.

Rays sign Wacha. 1 year, $3M deal.

My guess is they will use him as a reliever and see if that helps.

Suarez, Miley, and Aquino for Kieboom, Robles and Ross. They'd probably say no and I'd counter with Moustakas for Kieboom straight up.

I just don't see the Reds getting the value they should out of a Suarez deal until he proves he's back to 2018-2019 form post-injury.

Not to mention the bloom is off the Kiebo

I don’t think he even has 200 MLB at bats.

    Re: MLB Winter Meetings 2020

The slow winter free agency period across MLB is playing out just as many expected.

“Just because deals are moving slow doesn’t mean that there aren’t talks,” A's general manager David Forst said. “We’ve had a lot of conversations with agents, and talks with [general managers] from other teams.”

The early uncertainty and hesitation by teams has been a growing trend over recent years, but is magnified in these times of a pandemic and a 2021 season that could once again be unconventional from business and baseball perspectives.

“We didn’t have winter meetings this year, and there’s a ton of uncertainty about the 2021 season that’s adding to this,” Forst said. “Things are going to be moved back even further back on the calendar, but the conversations are taking place."
