It was a given Bauer was a rental when he signed, after all he has been looking forward to signing one year deals for a long time. Be thankful he bounced back this year and was a very productive rental.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, his opinion, man.
    Hope isn't a strategy

Man, if he really does stick with the one year only thing, I'm going to be even more chapped if they didn't pony up for him and go for it again this year.

Let’s be clear. There may be a general problem with financial people “ruining baseball.” But the Reds are a particular case. So far this off-season nothing positive happening, not even a friendly rumor stirring. Even a Cy Young Award bittersweet as the winner departs.

I would say rumors of the Reds wanting to acquire a shortstop is a "friendly rumor."

    I agree.

It seems like a bunch of folks around here just want to believe negative rumors and tweets though.

Nick Krall has said many times the Reds are not rebuilding but some folks choose to ignore that.
I believe the Reds have been honest and transparent with fans the past few years. Nobody wanted to believe them when they said they were going to get the pitching but they went out and got some pretty good pitching.

Counterpoint: giving hundreds of millions of dollars to a 30 year old starting pitcher is not a good idea.

Weren’t you one of the most upset about the reds trading for Bauer and saying he was a 1 year wonder?

    Just sayin’

We had joy. We had fun. We had a season in the sun.

This isn't even mildly surprising. Almost no one here has been acting like Bauer is coming back.

The Reds can’t field a team without a starting shortstop. I don’t find that rumor to be particularly positive.

IMO this has been a totally negative off-season. It is obvious Reds are seriously cutting payroll. They have not been tied to any good player in trade or FA rumors. Most of the continuing rumors are about Gray being traded.

I’m a pretty big consumer of Reds interviews, podcasts, whatever. My take is they’d like to maintain a good team next year but are hamstrung by a very tight budget.

They have been tied to one of the best players in MLB - Lindor.

Also Story, Didi, Semien, and Simmons.

I disagree. Hasn’t been anything I’ve read that sounds real or serious.

Didi was interviewed this week on a Cincy talk show to discuss his work re COVID plasma trials. Nothing suggested anything serious happening with the Reds. He said he thinks Reds and his agent talked a little bit.

Compare with Sonny Gray - mentioned repeatedly as being on the trade market. It’s all about the sell side.

I wonder if we could coax Ramon Ortiz or Dontrelle Willis out of retirement.

    Bauer responds:

    Source?

Pretty sure all news about my free agency is running through @AgentRachelLuba. Did she tweet something I missed or is this just more fake news?
    Sounds like Heyman is wrong.

Lol, I mean, ok, whatever. You are clearly an extremely pessimistic fan. It is what it is.

More likely that he got his information straight from the Reds who said there's no way in hell they'll match the amount of money other teams are willing to offer him.
