The Reds have won plenty of trades in the last ten years too. Castillo/Suarez/Gray/Bauer were all absolute fleecings.

Most of the bad trades discussed were during the Jocketty years. That time has long since passed. About the only real bad trade that has happened in the Williams/Krall era was the Puig/Wood trade. Which was widely praised at the time.

These days I think the Reds actually know what they're looking for when it comes to pitching. Which, to be fair, is very unfamiliar territory for long-time Reds fans.

I doubt anything happens, but if they're going to trade Suarez they better be bringing back a haul. You don't get that contract cheap.

Trading guys who signed team friendly contracts and who want to be here is a bad look.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

If Suarez goes to DC I want Robles and Kieboom. Add pieces of you have to for that return.

When these guys sign multi-year contracts, they are pretty sure that they will never play out the entire contract. Most teams will move long term contracts before they expire. That’s the way business is done nowadays.

It may not be a good look, but it is industry standard practice.

Really the only truly bad trades the Reds made this century were when they were tanking (Chapman and Frazier), so that was kinda on purpose.

You could probably throw the Bruce trade in there. Turned out to be completely worthless.

I think a framework of Suarez and Senzel for Kieboom, Robles, and a couple of very good prospects could be really interesting. Nationals would be getting the best player in Suarez, but the Reds would be able to move Moose to 3rd, re-stock the system a bit, and improve their financial flexibility. Sign Gregorius with the savings and you have an infield of Moose, Gregorius, Kieboom, and Votto with Robles lining up in CF.

    I’d make it a slobberknocker!!

    Reds trade:
    Suarez
    Senzel
    Aquino

    Nats trade:
    Kieboom
    Robles
Mason Denaburg RHP A+ 2018 1st rd pick #7 ranked prospect

That was along my line of thinking too. All of a sudden the team is stacked up the middle defensively as well as likely better D at 3rd. It seems like a very good fit. Even on top of it, if they move Gray to SD, SD has a glut of prospect talent. Guys like Gore, Abrams and Weathers. I know prospects aren’t promised to pan out, but nabbing one or two of those guys for Gray could be a steal in 1-2 years. Additionally, maybe the saving allows them to bring back Bauer too or add 2 starters say like a number 2 and number 3 type.

Maybe something like Suarez and Senzel for Robles, Kieboom and Rainey. Seems relatively fair to me.

Eh, I dunno. The Bruce trade brought us “Dealson! Dealson! Dealson!!” and all the laughter that ensued....

Robles and Kieboom might be okay for Geno himself, despite the fact that they’ve both not looked great in the majors. It wouldn’t be the worst trade in the world, but whatever.

Throwing in Senzel on top of that would be an awful trade for the Reds.

I think people are forgetting just how good Suarez’s contract is. He’s signed for another 5 seasons, 4 years with a club option. The most money he makes during that time is 11 million dollars and 15 on the option.

He should honestly be worth A LOT more than a couple of disappointments like that Nats trade.

I might be missing something here but I'd rather the Reds hold on to Geno than to keep Moose.

I keep hanging onto the hope that this is just another incarnation of big city writers trying to help big market teams swoop in on talented players locked up to reasonable contracts like the vultures that they all are.

If The Reds really are trying to dump the two most team friendly contracts in their recent history, they honestly need to just close up shop and shut the franchise down.
