That bolded part sounds about right. And this is why Cincy usually needs to overpay players that have other options to sign here.
This is why players like Gray are foolish to give the Reds a below market deal. Sonny is probably kicking himself now.

Maybe the goal is to get Castellanos to opt out next year by gutting the team? I'm sure the Reds were disappointed that he didn't opt out.

Sonny got out of New York, got a lot of guaranteed money to play for one of the closest teams to his home, and rejuvenated his career.

But yeah, he is kicking himself for missing the chance to be a Free Agent in this market.

He'd likely to be able to get at least 2 years/20 million in this market and he'd be able to pick the city he went to.
I think that's what the Reds gave him. He's a very affordable ace, that's why the Reds are shopping him.
Instead, he has to worry all winter about being shipped to somewhere he doesn't want to go.

I'm sure he enjoyed living in Cincy and playing here. But not sure he likes being in limbo now.

Passan said no such thing. He said the reds are listening. Why would they not listen?
