No idea, but you know Missouri and Kansas don't talk. The war between Kansas and Missouri could really re-erupt at any time. 170 years isn't long enough to cool things off.

Missouri showed 738 cases, so I'm not sure where the 50k cases SeaRay was talking about went.

BostonRed, you know what's going on with your neighbor state?
My source spreads them out when the date is known, so there is no inflation based on this.

Re: Monitoring the 7 Day Covid Trend Line. Looking for a peak

A nice low # today that Jax will be here to report on shortly, I'm sure, but one thing I had not noticed is that not all states report every day. In today's numbers, for example, I counted 11 states with no reported numbers. I suppose using the 7 day average as Jax wisely does smooths that out, but it was something I did not appreciate, and I assume I was not the only one, so I thought I would point it out.

States backfill too. So a number that doesn't get reported sometimes 'fills in" a day or too later. So hopefully the 7 day average iron's all that out.

Re: Monitoring the 7 Day Covid Trend Line. Looking for a peak

Jax, you're doing amazing work in this thread. One suggestion: the seven day average is super useful to see how things are progressing, but I think the week to week comparison would also be useful. For example, Sunday and Monday reports are generally lower, I believe, as they are reporting Saturday and Sunday numbers. So the 7 day smoothing and looking at the trend is great, but it might also be helpful week over week to see what the week ago number was. For example, yesterday's number was 36,896. A week ago Sunday the number was 41,967. That's a good apples to apples comparison as the same days of the week should result from similar circumstances. So when you report your daily numbers, if you gave the number from the same day of the week the previous week I think it would be an interesting data point. For the last week, here is how it would go (just for my own curiosity):

    Sunday: 3/14: 36,896 3/7: 41,967
    Saturday: 3/13: 48,808 3/6: 58,828
    Friday: 3/12: 66,785 3/5: 67,281
    Thursday: 3/11: 62,773 3/4: 68,321
    Wednesday: 3/10: 60,355 3/3: 66,879
    Tuesday: 3/9: 55,683 3/2: 56,890
    Monday: 3/8: 45,116 3/1: 53,147

Excellent to see that the numbers went down every single day compared to their week prior numbers. Granted, just by looking at the 7 day average and understanding very basic math it was already clear that was the case, but just for how my brain processes information it is helpful to compare the week prior numbers with the current day numbers to get a sense of the progress we are making week to week.

Thanks again for all the work on this!

Re: Monitoring the 7 Day Covid Trend Line. Looking for a peak

I don't know if I want to create more work for myself. And that looks like a little more work. But the numbers have started getting so long that I had considered adopting weekly numbers for more than a month or so ago.

I may experiment with it tonight.

Edit: Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be snarky..... If you want to do what you are saying feel free to add it to the thread.

For me, I'm not as concerned with comparing this day last week to today. Just the broad average of whether things are coming down.
