The shine isn’t off of either, imo. Plenty of MLB prospects struggle a bit at first, then blossom.

Not a prospect guy, but this seems like yet another "that's it?" return that makes me think that 90% of teams are absolutely lethally allergic to any kind of money contract right now.

Yeah, those that are great right out of the gate are generational players, ie Mike Trout.

Cleveland is now looking at an Opening Day payroll of about $35 million, with José Ramírez ($9.4M) and Roberto Pérez ($5.5M) the highest-paid players on the roster.

Gotta wonder if the Indians would trade Ramirez in the right deal.

Now, Carlos Carrasco being dealt is tough. They have plenty of young starting pitching depth, and they obviously intend to slash every nickel and dime they can, but the guy means a ton to the team/city, has been through hell and signed two team-friendly deals to stay in CLE.

Moral of the story: never sign a team-friendly deal, it just makes you easier to trade

Yeah or I guess guys like Pete Alonso off the top of my head, but those kind of guys are the exception. It’s pretty much a given that a prospect is going to take his lumps for a year or two at least upon being called up to the big leagues.

Yeah, but we are talking about multiple years of being bad for Senzel, not a couple weeks.

Some agents/players are smart enough to put in salary escalators if they're signing a team-friendly deal. Those escalators go into effect if the player is traded.

Meh, also sets up your family for generations if you have a career-ending injury.
