I do believe the Reds will sign one of the three free agent shortstops before long, but I think for the most part the budget will be spent at that point. So my thinking was that the Reds would start counting on the one asset that is still a bit under the radar and that is the pitching coach backed by Driveline. I think the Reds will continue to look for live arms and try and corral that talent.

Found this great article (at least I thought so) that puts this into perspective.

Anyone think it’s possible we see Brandon Finnegan again in the majors?

Only four active Reds were on the team when Brandon Finnegan made his Reds debut:

Reds Top Ten Seniority List (Reds debut date in parentheses):

    1. Joey Votto (9/4/07)
    2. Tucker Barnhart (4/3/14)
    3. Michael Lorenzen (4/29/15)
    4. Eugenio Suarez (6/11/15)
    5. Brandon Finnegan (9/11/15)
    6. Amir Garrett (4/7/17)
    7. Jesse Winker (4/14/17)
    8. Sal Romano (4/16/17)
    9. Luis Castillo (6/23/17)
    10. Tyler Mahle (8/27/17)
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

This list is going to make me feel ancient when Votto retires.

    Re: Building The Pen

Hopefully the team isn't on Sean Doolittle being who he was a few years ago. That said, if he's got anything left, he'll make a nice medium-leverage addition to the pen.

Right now I see the staff like this:

    Rotation:
    RH Castillo
    RH Gray
    RH Mahle
    LH Miley
    RH Antone

    Bullpen:
    LH Doolittle
    LH Perez
    LH Garrett
    RH Sims
    RH Lorenzen
    RH Hoffman
    RH DeLeon
    RH Ramirez

Guys like Hendrix, Romano, H.Perez, O'Brien, Garcia, and Warren will ride the shuttle

Lorenzen and Antone might flip-flop. That looks even better if they add another SP and drop a reliever (probably Hoffman).

I think if the Reds do manage to trade for Adames, either Mahle or Antone will go the other way.

And I would love for the Reds to sign James Paxton for the rotation.

Since he's a LH, it might be Amir Garrett.

    Re: Building The Pen

In terms of building the pen, Reds now have three lefties as strong candidates for the pen.

    Garrett, Doolittle, and CPerez.

Unusual for them, they haven’t emphasized the left side in recent seasons.

Yeah. I'm not high on Hoffman. I'd keep Hector Perez over him. Agreethat Lorenzen and Antone will flip flop.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

It’s been a glaring weakness too. I like the move.

He'd be sweet. There's a bunch of SPs still out there. The Reds have got to be digging on at least one of them, and they've got that SS slush fund to spend.

Plus any such move would lessen the impact of losing a “volume pitcher,” whatever that means, if Adames is the trade target.
