    I'd do that deal in a heartbeat, but the Pirates would have laughed at that. Those guys are all 25+ and are fading off the prospect board.

    The guys the Yankees gave up are all young and have some tools that offer good upside if they can figure it out.

    I totally agree. This is probably why the Reds didn’t make this trade. They don’t have 4 young, high ceiling prospects equivilant to what the Yankees gave up.

    Yeah, you're probably looking more at trading guys like Siani, Callihan, or Johnson. I do think Heatherly is in that group though.

    From Passan Twitter:

    Closer Brad Hand and the Washington Nationals are in agreement on a one-year, $10.5 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

    Hand winds up with more than his option and will be the Nationals’ new closer.

    I would’ve done Callihan, Johnson, Siani and Heatherly for Tallion in a heartbeat

    Probably a fair trade, but I wouldn’t do that if I were the Reds. They need prospects, and trading 4 decent ones for such a high risk, short term player doesn’t make much sense right now,

    Anyway, those four are probably too old and too low of a ceiling for the Pirates. They probably would have chosen the Yankees offer over that.

    I don’t think trade matches what the Yankees gave up. I’ve read two of the guys the Pirates get are close to the majors, probably be up with Pirates in 2021. None of these guys listed from the reds are even remotely close to the majors. Also, I don’t think any of them are as good as Smith.

    Bobby Nightengale @nightengalejr
    Nice story from
    @_MattWilkes
    on why Michael Lorenzen is well-positioned to earn a spot in the rotation. Interesting to see how his fastball and changeup have improved in recent years.

    Reds Content Plus (RC+) @RedsContentPlus
    Michael Lorenzen wants to start, and he'll likely get another opportunity to do so in spring training. With the improvements he's made since Derek Johnson came to town, Lorenzen is poised for success this time. http://redscontentplus.com/2021/01/m...ting-rotation/

    I was 12 or 13 when that film came out. Needless to say, that scene made quite an impression on me.

    The letter, obtained and published by KPNX TV in Phoenix, was signed by Bridget Brinsbacher, Executive Director of the Cactus League, an association that works with Major League Baseball to host the 15 teams that train in Arizona.

    It was also signed by the mayors or city managers of the eight cities that host teams.

    Jeff Passan
    @JeffPassan
    The most interesting part of this letter is the signature of the mayor of Glendale, Arizona ... where the Arizona Coyotes are currently playing regular-season NHL games ... in front of fans ...

    Bob Nightengale tweet - Mets are favorites for Bauer with record-setting average annual contract offer.

    Feinsand tweet, per source - Mets offer doesn’t eclipse the Gerrit Cole annual AAV to this point, but are in the mix.

    Whatever the precise offer, Mets seem to be strongly in the hunt for Bauer.
