Since there are still some speculating (hoping?) for the universal DH, it’s worth noting now that it’s not happening. MLB and the union couldn’t agree so pitchers will hit again in the NL.

I was hoping it was true, not a fan of watching 99% of pitchers trying to hit.

Mets have a deal with Lindor, 10 years at 341 million.

I'll give the Mets credit. They're not acting like the Yankees' timid cousin anymore.

April Fools post. Reds to finalize roster next week, decisions to make, need more time.

This contract is going to be awful in 5 years. One of the worst in baseball.

If he's a 5+ WAR player for the first five years of the deal (like he has been for his whole career), then I doubt the Mets will care.

First reaction to this post was surprise because Lindor is a stud, but looking closer I think you are right. I just didn't realize how much of his value was derived from defense. If he starts to slow and the defense dwindles, he is merely good not great.

Yes, the rest is just pension. Same with Votto. The Mets had better build a winning team around him for those years, though. Too many teams stop with the big contract.

I forget what the status of some rules are this year: are double headers still just 7 innings per game?

Votto activated. Schrock and Payton optioned. Edgar Garcia DFA. India contract selected. Akiyama, Gray and Lorenzen on IL. As per Sheldon tweet.

    They finally figured it out.

A change seems to be taking place recently. Time was that a small to mid-market team would trade a boat load of prospects for a one year rental in order to go for it. Now, top prospects have become more valuable assets to small market teams hoping to maintain a competitive window at a reasonable cost. The one year rentals are more likely to go to a team with deep pockets who can sign the player to a long term deal. There is a kind of bifurcation of management strategies taking place in MLB.
