Maybe redundant of Farmer, but not a bad spot for Todd to play part time.
I like him better as a RH bat off the bench than Aquino. He fits well with the two lefty corner IF.

Wouldn’t be surprised if AA and/or Holder make the Reds, in part because they can’t readily be sent to the minors. AA out of options, Holder Rule 5.

These last bench spots can be viewed as fungible, maybe for now pick the guys who otherwise could be lost.

It isn’t forever, Shogo will be back, there are always player moves at the end of the bench. Stephenson, Farmer, Shogo, would be the more “permanent” bench players.

Blandino would seem on the bubble, he has an option year remaining. Naquin would make the team initially, pending more moves when Shogo returns. 5 or 6 altogether depending on Votto’s status.

Yeah, go grab Frazier and keep Naquin even when Shogo returns; move AA for a lotto ticket prospect. Probably time to give that guy a chance to play every day.

Holder as a true up the middle glove becomes more appealing if Frazier is brought in, but I doubt the Reds would let go of their beloved Farmer.

Naquin/Shogo and Frazier/Farmer? Frazier would bring a good story and some fan appeal, too.

Exactly. The Reds have a lot of guys who are on the fringe of the roster that other teams may want as a lotto ticket. Package a few of them. Aquino, Blandino and Hoffman or something like that. Or deal them separately for a little cash to put towards a vet or two. I'd like to see the Reds add Tony Watson and Todd FRazier. Then the roster would be:

Barnhart, Stephenson, Votto, India, Suarez, Moose, Frazier, Farmer, Winker, Senzel, Castellanos, Naquin, Shogo (when all healthy). That would be a solid bench for a contender. Versatile defender/3rd catcher in Farmer, lefty bats in Naquin and Shogo and a RH Power corner guy in Frazier.

Castillo, Gray, Mahle, Miley and Lorenzen with Doolittle, Watson and Garrett as lefty options and Sims, Antone, Bedrosian, Fulmer and Ramirez as righties. C. Perez would be the 5th starter to begin the season with Gray out and if he performs, maybe Lorenzen goes to the pen when Gray returns. His experience out there would certainly make it look better. By then, somebody else will probably be injured anyway. There will be a need.

Aquino has the same offensive tools as Frazier, with upside, and compliments the platoon splits of Winker and y'all wanna cast him aside for the corpses of Todd Frazier and Tyler Naquin?

Frazier is in my avatar, but no way I am losing Aquino to get him for one season on the bench. I would rather have Frazier than Farmer or Blandino, both of whom could be sent to the minors, however.

It’s not a Frazier/Aquino debate though. It will be Naquin vs. AA as their 5th OF. I can see the arguments either way and won’t be upset if they cut Aquino or keep him. Naquin is a bit more versatile and I think he and Frazier give you good defense on the corners and solid plate approaches. AA is almost 27 and has under 300 abs as a big leaguer. I think the word is out on how to pitch to him. I lean toward finding a team who believes in his power and think his defense is better than it is (it’s not very good, but his arm hides that fact).

Frazier is a big RH bat off the bench and a good vet in the clubhouse. But I am guessing they will stick with Farmer and another in-house option for IF bench.

AA is a big bat, but is it consistent? Upside is disappearing rapidly.

Taylor Trammell made the M’s opening day roster and will start.

but everyone here said he was a bust.

trading prospects for rentals always works out well for small-market teams.

I can’t fault the Reds for that deal. They gave their fans the biggest Reds pitching star in years. Fans are entitled to some excellence once in awhile.

Why does “everyone” on here keep saying “everyone on here said...”?

I was in the extreme vocal minority that called TT a bust. Everyone loved that kid, except me and like 3 other posters.

And by the way, just because he had a great spring and won a ML job does not mean he’s not a bust YET. Jose Garcia looked like an all star last spring, came up and looked absolutely awful. There’s a world of difference between spring training and regular season baseball. Can’t believe people still don’t understand this.

Also, even if TT becomes a solid regular you do that trade 10 out of 10 times. The Reds received their first ever Cy Young award winner for him. TT will be lucky to have a career as good as someone like Drew Stubbs. Whoopdy do.
