Re: Hank Aaron - HR King - RIP

Coming back from Meijer in Pleasant Ridge (Norwood?), the electronic billboard popped up with a black & white photo ad saying simply "Hammerin' Hank, Henry Aaron 1934-2021" and showing a photo of him in his classic swing. I then saw the same billboard pop up on the Norwood Lateral as I drove west right at Reading Road. Lamar Advertising, the billboard company, put them up around the nation. Here's an image from the web.Name: Hammering Hank.jpg

From what I've seen, Reading's own Claude Osteen, gave up the most homers to Aaron - 14 dingers. A blog I found quoted Osteen as saying, "You have a better chance of slapping a live rattlesnake across the face and getting away with it than you do trying to fool Hank Aaron.”

Here's a Texas newspaper interviewing various baseball folks (including Osteen).

MLB network had Osteen giving up the second most after Don Drysdale, I think. On the same show, Costas quoted George Will as saying that at one time Aaron held the record for holding the most records.

Aaron's memorial service will be on MLB Network today at 1. I believe it will be streaming on YouTube as well.
