Exactly. You need a SS, then pay the going rate for a SS.

I've always been high on Kurt Stillwell.

    Re: Shortstop Options

I’d suggest Jose Peraza but that’s really not very funny.

No one has mentioned Larkin. He was pretty good, IIRC.

Go get Javier Baez for some B/C list prospects and go for a rebound. Cubs are being cheaper than anyone, is a pending free agent, and coming off a terrible season.

Worried this post might plant the idea of simply placing a tire out there to see how it does.

We don’t know that he isn’t trying to, or that he won’t.

I get the pessimism due to the years of tanking, but Cast is reported to have given Krall the go ahead to sign a SS. Some SS have chosen other teams, but for all we know, the Reds put competitive offers to them, and they just chose to go elsewhere. Didi is still out there, and we don’t know the details of those negotiations.

If the Reds start the season with Farmer as the starting SS, kvetch then. But we aren’t there yet.

Villar’s a better backup plan than Galvis, but I’ll still be pretty disappointed if they are unable to get Didi.

I agree this is far from a done deal, and that wasn't a kvetch. The market price for a SS is pretty well defined at this point. There isn't going to be a guy who signs for a steep discount. So pony up.

I would be disappointed. Unless Villar comes with pitching help that would not be coming with a Didi deal.

If they could do this, it would probably be my favorite option even over signing Didi

    Re: Shortstop Options

Baez isn't a bad idea at all. Still think you do two years for Didi. That's a better option than trading for Story - which costs prospects and $.

Like adding Villar too but not as the primary guy.
