The issue with him is that his home/road splits are substantial.

I want the Reds to think big and go after Zach Plesac.

I seriously wonder if there was a chance a Castillo plus Suarez/Moose for Torres et al was meant to be a precursor to getting back in the Bauer sweepstakes.

Like it seems so unusual that simply signing a good SS is plan B to swapping an ace for a young SS, knowing it would just leave a gigantic hole in the rotation.

Could make sense why Reds have been tight lipped on involvement with Bauer while seemingly shopping salary and then zagging out of it.

Could see Bob ok’ing some extra dollars to retain Bauer if other money was coming out. Bob gets obsessed with certain players.

    - I know a SS will be added, but I'm still hoping to add a swing type starter too! A guy that can eat innings and still be useful to the pen, and maybe add a LHRP to boot too. These 3 guys would be ok in my book to bolster the roster:

    1) Andrelton Simmons- 2 year deal to give Garcia time in minors

    2) Chasen Shreve- LHRP

    3) Trevor Cahill- RHRP/SP- nice swing guy, might let Lodolo develop a bit longer before an august call up
Lorenzen and Antone are going to get serous looks for those last two spots and i dont think Hoffman and Miley can bet them out. Frankly I think Lorenzen is the 4th starter the battle will be for number 5. De Leon is also pitching very well in the winter leagues and you know they will add a starting pitcher or two before camp.

They have already acquired the swing starter. His name is Michael Lorenzen.

What would it take - India and Richardson?
If they could get him for India and Richardson that should be a no brainer IMHO.

I had this exact same thought earlier today. I was thinking about Bauer and the market for him just seems so strange and small. Bob C might be thinking of going for it.

Same with everybody who ever played for the Rockies. Bring them down to sea level and their splits flatten out.

If the Reds truly want to go for it, they should find a way to sign Didi.

Work out a back-end loaded contract over 3 years.

Reds should have more opportunities to cut salary over next couple years, maybe Cast leaves, maybe a trade in a better market. Commit to Didi for awhile.

He’s the right fit, doesn’t require a trade, they should try to work it out.

If that's the price then yes, please.

Something tells me they're going to want Tyler Stephenson.

no snark: you seriously should not wonder about that. bauer is not re-signing with the reds. it would obviously be great if he did, but there is zero percent chance of it transpiring.

If, and I agree it is not happening, the Reds met his salary and personal demands he would absolutely sign with the Reds. Bauer has made it very clear he doesn’t really care who he plays for as long as they give him what he wants. Bauer has made it very clear he enjoyed playing in Cincinnati. This is not just BS. When he left Cleveland it was very clear he was ecstatic to be out of the Cleveland Indians organization. If he felt the same way about Cincinnati it would have been clear as well. Again, I don’t think it’s going to happen, but I had the same thought as Patrick yesterday. Clearing money and Castillo while picking up a young and controllable SS. We know Cast gets obsessed with players. Wouldn’t shock me if he has been telling Krall to figure out a way to try and get Bauer. Perhaps yesterday he came to the realization it’s not going to happen.

I’ve been saying this for months though : it’s very clear there is not as much of a market for Bauer as everyone thought there would be. It seems like it’s the Blue Jays and I’m not sure who else.

I would be 100% on board with this. Reds could really use his defense - even if he's moved to 2B once Garcia is ready - and the price shouldn't be too exorbitant.

You have to think that by 2022 the DH will be permanent in the NL and one of Winker/Cast will be out of the picture. Votto to DH, Moustakas to 1B, Didi to 2B, Garcia at SS and Suarez at 3B is a pretty solid infield.

I'd be fine with Semien too, in a similar situation. Story if they want a go-for-broke, 1-year commitment.

I think he has a chance to be special and it's not easy to find that at C. I don't think I can stomach trading him.

IMO, any of those three would be exceptionally good pickups.

Story is probably the best of the three, but the prospects cost could be tough to accept.

The differences between Semien and Gregorius are, IMO, negligible enough that I'd be fine with signing the cheapest alternative, honestly. (And hoping that extra cash is plowed into a SP to "replace" Bauer.)
