I stated early in the thread, that I thought Jerry Jones would sign Dak. I also said I thought this was the perfect year to escape. But that he wouldn't.

So the deal is massive and gives Dak everything he wanted. Jones caved in every regard.

4 years not 5. From everything I read the deal is technically 6 but 2 years automatically void so in reality it's 4. (not sure exactly how that works)

It's 160 million, with 126 guaranteed. He'll receive a 66 million dollar signing bonus and a salary of 9 million in 2021 so he collects 75 million in Year 1. 2022 is 22 million already guaranteed. So 95 million guaranteed already. And the 2023 gets guaranteed at 31 million on the 5th day of 2022 league year. So to escape that Cowboys would have to walk away after 1 year at 95 million. (ain't happening).

He has a no trade clause in the contract, and they've written into it ways Dak can never be franchised tagged again.

One blue check pundit said the amount of money handed out indicated to him that Jerry Jones know that future TV money is going way up.

    Just saw that.

Comp update: Patriots are finalizing a 1-year deal worth close to $14 million for Cam Newton to return to New England, per source.

This one is a head scratcher. Not that they might bring him back, but that they would pay 14 million after the way he stunk last season. Especially in a year that is tight for cap space. Bill must know something the rest of us don't.

It sounds like the 14 million is the max value after incentives and the base is much lower.

Re: The incredible NFL QB carousel of 2021

Yep this makes more sense. 14 million straight was crazy. These are incentives he's not likely to make.

And... 1.5 million is roster based bonuses, so they save money by cutting him along the way.
    _____________________
Cam Newton's contract with the #Patriots has a $5 million base value, according to sources:

    $2m signing bonus
    $1.5m base salary (guaranteed)
$1.5m total in per-game roster bonuses

The rest ($9m) is in incentives for playoffs, Pro Bowl, All-Pro, MVP, Super Bowl MVP, etc.

Here's a NY Post article about the choice Jets face. To me this is a no brainer. Take Wilson and trade Darnold.

Drew Brees makes it official and announces his retirement.

So according to Tom Pellisero, Saints are looking to make Jameis Winston the QB but on a incentive laden deal like Newton just signed in NE. That's not a bad plan. If they had signed him to a Bridgewater type deal it would not have been smart.

Re: The incredible NFL QB carousel of 2021

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has reached an agreement with the Washington Football Team on a 1-year, $10M deal that could grow to $12 million with incentives, per
    @AdamSchefter

That deal probably means he is the starter. and gives them plenty of time if they pursue someone like Trey Lance who may need some grooming.

Jameis has signed a one year deal with Saints that could be worth 12 million with incentives. No actual word on the baseline. I bet it's a lot like Cam's. Another prove it deal.

I'm excited about this. I admit that's the irrational fan in me, but it's how I feel.

Re: The incredible NFL QB carousel of 2021

Tyrod Taylor signs 1 year deal with Texans for an estimated 6 million with incentives that could take it to 12 million.

Edit: 5.5 million base, 12 million with incentives but only 2.5 mill guaranteed.

    According to Rapaport.....

One QB to monitor: The #Jaguars have received a few calls from teams inquiring about QB Gardner Minshew, source said. The Jax QB room is in flux, and we’ll see where this one goes.
