If he's smart, he should know that he can make up all of that $20M and more in just a few years with his new team. He still gets $10M for working out and staying in shape. Look long term and he has $200M waiting for him with his new team before he retires. Since he has a no-trade clause, he can pick his team. He'd make $20M in endorsements alone if he went to the JETS.

The Texans have placed the price for Watson at a premium...because for one they don't want to trade him but if they have to they are going to make another team pay through the nose. I don't see it happening...

But he would have to play for the Jets. If I were him, I wouldn't be too worried about endorsements affecting my choice of destination. Peyton Manning made all kinds of money in endorsements playing in Indianapolis and Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers have done likewise in Green Bay.

Ian Rapaport reports that Washington will cut Alex Smith in next couple days but that Smith still wants to play. Hopefully backup QB is what he wants. Like I've said before Colts and Jags make a lot of sense here.

Or possibly the Bears, where he'd be reunited with Matt Nagy.

New England may be a good fit for Smith. They may be looking for more of a long term solution but hard to not see the fit. Above average QB who doesn't make mistakes. If he is determined to start I think that's where he should go.

No, they haven't. Not even close. Podunk, hickville cities like Indianapolis, the most boring town (can't call it a city) I've ever been to, and lived in, in my life, and Green Bay, which isn't even a town, are both at the very bottom of bases to work from to gain endorsement popularity.

What Favre, Peyton and Rodgers have accomplished in the world of endorsements for Hall-of-Fame Quarterbacks is pitiful. Put any one of those three in a JETS uniform, and their total endorsement dollars would have been more than their career total in NFL salaries.

If I'm NE, the only way Smith interests me as a starter is if I draft a guy who I think needs a short term bridge before he's ready.

Or, if you never want to throw a pass more than 4 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Winning brings dollars though and if the Jets have to give players and picks plus take on Watsons contract they will still end up being 4-12 or 3-13...that's why these rookie contracts are so important for rebuilding teams...

It all depends on options. Im sure there are a handful of available/maybe available guys Bill would rather get and I agree that they would still need a young future QB to bridge that gap to but I think they have to look at that division and feel like they could still win a good bit of ballgames. Fitzpatrick is another guy that might fit there.

49ers looking at Bridgewater for backup. Chances of Garappolo playing all the games is 0%.

Supposedly, they are going to a 17-game season. Every team is going to need two capable QB's, if only to give the better QB some rest because that QB could play over 20 games if they make the playoffs.

It's really crazy how QB's move around so much at the moment.

Seems like it used to take QBs longer to acclimate to a new system/playbook.
