Votto a finalist for the SS. It's wild he hasn't won one yet, and this could be his last shot.

Does he get passed over for Goldschmidt again? Or does the award go the Freeman (prettier average, and great year for sure right through to the WS) or Muncy (because he is a Dodger)?

Some lesser known facts to add to the legend of Votto:

He’s finished 1st in the NL in assists by a 1B-man 6 times, and ranks 4th all-time. He figures to pass Bagwell and Helton next season, then leapfrog Eddie Murray into the top spot in 2023.

EDIT: If the NL adopts the DH, maybe he has a tough time making it to #1 on the list.

    It's definitely close. Some stats:

    Code:
    		PA	wOBA	wRC+ Bat_RAA
    Goldschmidt	679	.373	138	32.6
    Freeman 695	.379	135	31.1
    Muncy 592	.379	140	30.1
    Votto 533	.391	140	27.4
Votto has the best raw rate stats and tied for the best with Muncy when park adjusted. The biggest issue is that he just didn't play as much, by a fairly big margin. That also shows up in his context specific stats like RE24 (distant 3rd behind Freeman and Muncy) and Win Probability Added (distant 3rd behind Freeman). Nobody got to 100 RBI and Votto tied with 99. He also led NL 1B in HR. So there are some traditional stats going for him at least.

All told, I'd break down the likelihoods at something like 35% Goldschmidt, 35% Freeman, 25% Votto, 5% Muncy.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Votto finishes 14th in the voting for MVP (disappointingly).

14th is with the exchange rate taken into account.

By HR% here is the top ten, Votto is the age outlier

I didn't read all of this post. Just happened to see the first page and saw this quote. I'm guessing there was plenty of bashing, but no one would have thought Joey would have the fun to watch year he had. Hope he can keep it up in 2022. And sorry Joey, but winning a Championship is unlikely in Cincy.
