    Re: NBA 2021: 3rd Time's the Charm

Mitch Kupchak has proven to have had an excellent run in the draft during his final years with the Lakers. After Randle was announced as an All Star this year, it made me go back and take a look at his drafting during that period. His last 3 years with the Lakers were the actual beginning of the rebuild. All three lottery picks have made a NBA All Star team.

    2014 - Julius Randle - 7th Pick - 2020-21 All Star
    2015 - D'Angelo Russell - 2nd Pick - 2018-19 All Star
    2016 - Brandon Ingram - 2nd Pick - 2019-20 All Star

Then when you add in other picks during those 3 years, he only missed on one pick (2015 - Anthony Brown - Pick 34 / 2nd Round).

    2014 - Jordan Clarkson - 46th Pick / Round 2 - Current frontrunner for 6MOY?
    2015 - Larry Nance Jr. - 27th Pick - Legitimate NBA Starter/Rotation Player | Anthony Brown - Pick 34 / 2nd Round - Playing in Europe
    2016 - Ivica Zubac - 32nd Pick / 2nd Round - Legitimate NBA Starter/Rotation Player

Summary - 3 years & 7 Picks - 3 All Stars, 1 6MOY candidate, 2 Legitimate NBA Starters/Rotation Players, and 1 player that did not succeed in the NBA. While he has not had the same level of success in Charlotte, it appears he has hit a HR with LaMelo Ball in the most recent draft who will likely be the 2020-21 ROY. He did draft SGA, but flipped him for Mile Bridges and the picks that were used to acquire Devonte Graham.....not an optimal move, but it could be worse. Seems to be mixed opinions on PJ Washington. Finally some of his controversial and criticized FA signings have worked out better than most expected (Rozier & Hayward).

    Re: NBA 2021: 3rd Time's the Charm

I think POR's going to be able to pull this out.

Win their next three before the break. Get Giles back and go 2-1 to start the 2nd half, and be in 4th or 5th place or March 16th when C.J. should be practicing with the team by then. A return within a week after that with minute restrictions should boost the team as March comes to a close. Nurkic should be practicing with the team by then with a return expected the first half of April. Then the team will have a month to get everyone introduced to each other before the playoffs begin. No reason at all for POR not to secure the 4th seed over PHO, SAN, GSW, DEN and anyone else who might challenge for it.

Probably better to face UTA in the 2nd than the LAL or LAC. UTA is less likely to get calls from the officials, but they are also likely to have more fans in the stands. Of course, that's all assuming UTA, POR, LAL and LAC get past the combination of PHO, SAN, DAL, DEN, MEM, NOP and the GSW.

That may be the worst half of basketball that I have ever seen the Rockets play. 11-41 from the field. 2-20 from distance. 4 assists! 0 steals! They were outrebounded 31-19. Just pitiful.

EDIT: Who says lightning can't strike twice in the same place? The Rockets go 2-25 from the three-point line in the second half. They were totally embarrassed tonight by the Grizzlies by 49 points, disgracing themselves 133-84.

There are 7 teams in the East within 1 game of each other in the standings. A team could go from potentially having first-round home court advantage to missing the playoffs in the blink of an eye.

Joakim Noah is officially retiring. Presumably his next move is to run for mayor of Cleveland.

Super comeback by the Jazz. Hope they can finish it.

A couple of days ago, those 7 all had 17 losses at the same time.

Tough season for the Pacers. They've basically been without Oladipo all season (traded him for LaVert, but waiting on him), and now Warren is out for probably the entire regular season.

24 made "3's" tonight against CHA. (franchise record)

LaMelo -18, worst on the floor tonight for anyone.

The real Melo: 29 points, 5 Steals, 2 Blocks, 6-10 from "3". Melo was on fire.

RoCo: 5-5 from "3" before a couple misses at the very end to kill the clock.

GSW tomorrow night on a back-to-back. Bring 'em on!

The Rockets find themselves flying down the Cade Cunningham Expressway, and they are not stopping at any of the toll booths along the way. A dozen consecutive losses and counting by an average of 18 points a defeat. They lose at home last night to the woeful Cavaliers by double digits. 20-21 season RIP.

The Time Lord took the Clippers to Gallifrey tonight. He made a pile of big plays in the 4th quarter to seal the win.

I'm not certain which team has fewer holes...PHO or UTA.

Seems like Saric has made as big a jump as any player in the NBA this year...a strange thing to happen this late in a career, but not really if you take into account that he's a big (who plays like a Guard) and comes from overseas. He's not underrated at Redszone, but nationally he certainly is. After Booker and Paul, I'd say he's the next most valuable player on that team. Ayton is excellent, but Saric (like Marcus Smart) makes winning plays after winning plays. PHO is loaded with talent and Monty Williams is doing a Coach-of-the-Year job (he has my vote so far).

It is amazing how much smarter coaches are when Chris Paul is on the court.

Going to be real interesting what he decides to do after next year. He'll be 37 that year ('22/'23) but its clear his abilities and how he plays isn't substantially degrading with age. Once he doesn't have that mammoth contract attached to him he could be a championship winning piece for a contender, as long as he's reasonably priced.
